This collection of 21 old letters, transcribed in 2003 by John McDonnell, assisted by
Karen McDonnell, had been kept by John McDonnell's grandfather Karl Absalom
McVey, and was given to him by his grandmother Rose (Martin) McVey. The
spellings of words were intended to match what was written. Characters either too
sloppy or too fancy to discern are indicated by underline marks. Comments by the
transcriber are enclosed in brackets.
