CAVERNICOLI (BELGIAN – COMPLETE SET OF 10)

 

This set of cavemen was issued simultaneously in numerous European countries in the European summer of 2003. The British name for them is The Cavemen. They have also been released in Germany (2003, “Die Ötzis kommen”), Italy (2003, “Paleoboys”), France (2003, “Les Cromignons”), Switzerland (2003, known by both the German and French names), Spain (2003, “Tribuguays”), Portugal (2003, “Cavernicolas”), Poland (2004, “Jaskiniowe Ludki”), Czech Republic and Slovakia (2004, “Chlapci z Paleolitli”), Hungary (2004, “Kökori Pereputty”), Croatia and Slovenia (2004, “Paleoboys”) and Serbia-Montenegro (2004, “Paleoboys). Thanks to Danielle Jacob for my initial set, which came with Belgian papers in French and Dutch. I therefore list the figurines under their Belgian names. Thanks also to Danielle for some Cavemen Magicode papers.

2003 9 – Superboard, caveman on skateboard. Thanks to Karen Harvey for a British “Cavemen” paper, on which the figure is named “Wheelie”. Toy Type: Hand-Painted Figurine: Caveman. No. of Duplicates: 0

2003 10 – Skruto, caveman with a roadsign. Comes with an additional assembly instruction paper. Thanks to Karen Harvey for a British “Cavemen” paper, on which the figure is named “Looki”. Toy Type: Hand-Painted Figurine: Caveman. No. of Duplicates: 0

 

CYBERTOP IN DEFENCE OF THE PORTAL OF FANTASY (COMPLETE SET OF 12)

 

This set of computer characters was released simultaneously in Germany and many other European countries in the Northern spring of 2003. Unlike most sets of the past, which have one generic paper for the set, this set follows trend of the Angels and Devils and Cavemen and has individual papers for each figurine! Apart from Germany, Cybertop figurines have been released in the following countries, each with 12 individual papers in that country’s language: Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, the UK, Norway, Denmark, the Benelux countries, Greece, Finland, Sweden, Poland, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Moldavia, Romania, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia-Montenegro, Macedonia, Latvia, Russia, the Ukraine, Japan and Canada. The series is now available in Australia and New Zealand, having started in about August 2005. So there are well over 300 different papers out there – a huge challenge for collectors!

 

2003 A – Cybertop, our hero, the only creature who can travel between the real world and cyberspace. The tip of his tail is round. Thanks to Michelle Plakas Kaiser for this one, which came with a German paper. I also have papers for: Australasia (obtained from a Kinder Surprise egg dated 28/4/06), Canada (thanks to Seanoha Finigan for this) and France (thanks to Sylvia Laliouse for this). 2003 B – Cyberluna, Cybertop’s loyal girlfriend. She has a round tail tip. Thanks to Karen Harvey for this one, which came with a UK paper. 2003 1 – Cattivira, the evil cyber-witch. Her dress is dark red. Thanks to Michelle Plakas Kaiser for this one, which came with a German paper. 2003 3 – Pistolerius, Cattivira’s rather portly chief spy. Thanks to Michelle Plakas Kaiser for this one, which came with a German paper. 2003 C – Corsarius, Cattivirus with goggles, visor and backpack. Thanks to Michelle Plakas Kaiser for this one, which came with a German paper. 2003 E – Valvo-San, Cybertop’s chief and adviser. His head lights up whenever he gets a great idea, and the toy itself has a light in it. Thanks to Michelle Plakas Kaiser for this one, which came with a German paper. 2003 H – Miss Zoom, an intrepid Webcam. She has burgundy around her eyes. Thanks to Michelle Plakas Kaiser for this one, which came with a German paper. 2003 8 – Mr. Mouse, a mouse of the computer variety that’s also an Internet detective. Has a rounded tail end. Thanks to Eyal Ben Tsur for this one, which came with a German paper. 2003 L – Chipspeed, a sort of microchip spider with a web (presumably representing the World Wide Web). Thanks to Michelle Plakas Kaiser for this one, which came with a German paper. 2003 12 – Dr Link, an old laptop computer. Face alternates between smiling and astonished, depending on the angle you hold him at. Thanks to Karen Harvey for this one, which came with a UK paper. DER HERR DER RINGE: DIE RÜCKKEHR DES KÖNIGS (LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING—GERMAN: COMPLETE SET OF 9)

 

Thanks to Ulrike Degen for this set of figurines based on the third and final movie in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, The Return of the King, directed by New Zealander Peter Jackson and filmed on location all over New Zealand, including parts of my home town, Wellington. The movie won a staggering 11 Oscars in 2004, including Best Movie and Best Director. Its world premiere was in Wellington. Anyway, this set was first issued in Germany, and in 2003 was also released in France (as “Le Seigneur des Anneaux”), Switzerland and Brazil (as “O Senhor dos Anéis”).
