WCW Spring Stampede Results

Backstage, Eric Bischoff paces the floor, wondering how Hulk Hogan checked himself out of the hospital. Billy Kidman and Vince Russo reassure him that everything will be fine.

Tony Schiavone, Scott Hudson and Mark Madden intro'd the show. They announced that the referees had been told to be lax with the rules and to let the wrestlers fight. Madden sported a black eye as a result of the vicious attack at the hands of Tank Abbot.

Interview: Team Package
Ric Flair told Mean Gene that he would wrestle in his street clothes and fight street fight rules in the upcoming tournament.

WCW Tag Team Tournament Match
Team Package with Elizabeth d. The Mamalukes with Disco Inferno and The Harris Boys
Before the match, Russo came to the stage and told Team Package that he was sending The Harris Boys to the ring in order to make it an "even playing field." Ron and Don hit the ring and jumped Package as The Mamalukes went to work on the Nature Boy. It was a four on two match, with the New Blood team trying desperately to take out the charter members of the Millionaire's Club. Flair made the tag with Package, but the referee didn't see it. As Disco tried to get his two cents in, Liz slapped him to a thunderous response from the Chi Town crowd. Finally, with the war waging both in and out of the ring, The Total Package racked Johnny the Bull for the win in this first round tournament match.

Interview: Mike Awesome
Awesome told Mean Gene that he would take out The Cat in the first round of the US Tournament. Bam Bam Bigelow interrupted the interview, and was attacked by Awesome for his troubles.

Mancow with his radio sidekicks d. Jimmy Hart with Emery Hale
This match stemmed from a brawl between Hart and Mancow on a recent visit to Mancow's radio show. Mancow told the crowd that he would get revenge in Chicago's honor. Hart got in a few low blows before the DJ took over on the Mouth of the South. With the referee knocked down, Hale entered the ring and press slammed Mancow to the outside, into the arms of his radio sidekicks. As Hart told Hale to go to the back, Mancow took a chair across the manager's back, scoring the win in this special attraction.

Backstage, Russo scolds The Harris Boys and The Mamalukes for blowing an opportunity.

US Title Tournament Match
Disqualification - Scott Steiner d. The Wall
It was pure power against raw power as The Wall locked horns with Big Poppa Pump, Scott Steiner. Poppa pounded on the former bodyguard, but Wall gave it right back to the self-proclaimed "genetic freak." The Wall dropped Steiner with a low blow and took him off his feet with a standing chokehold. On the outside, Poppa Pump was sent into the guardrail, giving Wall time to set up a table. The Wall attempted to chokeslam Steiner through the table, but Scott gouged the eyes and put the referee in the line of fire instead. After Mark Johnson's body split the table in two, another referee came out and disqualified The Wall, sending Steiner on to the next round.

Interview: Ernest "The Cat" Miller
As Miller told Okerlund that he was waiting for James Brown, Bam Bam Bigelow jumped The Cat, knocking him cold on the steel scaffolding.

US Title Tournament Match
Mike Awesome d. Ernest "The Cat" Miller
As Awesome came to the ring, Bigelow attacked, suddenly making himself a part of the US Title Tournament. The two monsters pounded each other, both looking to advance. After Bigelow delivered a diving headbutt, The Cat entered the ring, ruby red slippers and all, and leveled Bam Bam with a superkick. Miller took the mic and said he was going to dance for Chicago. Awesome almost took him out of his slippers with a clothesline before finishing The Cat off with a frogsplash for the win.

Interview: The Franchise Shane Douglas and Buff Bagwell
Bagwell said it was the New Blood's time to shine. Douglas stated that Ric Flair would go down at the hands of The Franchise.

WCW Tag Team Title Tournament Match
The Franchise Shane Douglas and Buff Bagwell d. Harlem Heat 2000 with Cash and J Biggs
Heat showed their power early, keeping Bagwell contained to the canvas. Buff made the tag with Douglas, but was attacked on the outside by big Cash. Inside, The Franchise was double-teamed by the massive H2K. Douglas fought his way back and, after stopping Big T with a kick below the belt, he caught Stevie Ray with the "Pittsburgh Plunge" for the victory.

Interview: Booker
Booker realized the opportunity that was given to him, and stated that he would take full advantage of it.

US Title Tournament Match
Sting d. Booker
The Stinger had the Chicago fans fully behind him as he faced off against the former Harlem Heat member, Booker. Tempers flared early and the fight took to the ringside area, where Sting and Booker threw each other onto various crewmembers. Back inside, Booker took over on his painted foe, slowing him down with a front facelock. After an axe kick to the back of the head, Sting barely kicked out of a pinfall attempt. Both men turned up the heat, trying to put the other away. After an amazing exchange, Sting leveled Booker with the Scorpion Death Drop, sending him on in the US Tournament. After the match, Booker called The Stinger back into the ring, offering his congratulations.

Interview: Billy Kidman, Torrie Wilson and Eric Bischoff
Bischoff looked over his shoulder repeatedly as he told Mean Gene that Hulk Hogan's release from the hospital was purely a rumor. Kidman said that if Hogan was out, he would put him back in.

US Title Tournament Match
Vampiro d. Billy Kidman with Torrie Wilson
Vamp tossed Billy around the ring, dominating over his smaller opponent. As Kidman went up in the corner to deliver punches to Vampiro's head, he was caught and slammed hard to the mat with a gothic powerbomb. Billy came back and took over on his opponent, using his quickness to his advantage. As Vampiro went for another powerbomb, Kidman floated through, bringing Vamp down with a face drop. Hulk Hogan pulled up in a Dodge Charger and stormed into the arena to the ring. He threw Kidman over the ropes and destroyed the youngster, chokeslamming him from the top of the steps onto the announcer's table. Hogan rolled Billy back into the ring, allowing Vampiro to get the easy win. The Hulkster got the mic and told Bischoff he was coming to find him. In the dressing room, Russo walked away and told Eric that he would handle things. Hogan charged through the backstage area, screaming for Bischoff. He finally found him and attacked, before Russo returned with a group of cops. When Hulk didn't calm down, they drew their guns, forcing Hogan to back off.

Hardcore Title Match
Terry Funk d. Screamin' Norman Smiley
As Funk walked down the back hall toward the ring, Terry Taylor told him that Norman Smiley was hiding in catering. Funk went down to the room, ready to start the Hardcore Title match. As The Funker asked where Smiley was, the entire room pointed to the bathroom door. Terry emptied the entire contents of a coke machine onto Smiley's head. The brawl carried on throughout the backstage area, with both men using anything and everything in their path as a weapon. Smiley climbed onto a giant pipe, but fell down through a table after taking a chair to the head by the crazy Texan. They fought into the arena and into the ring, where Funk introduced a ladder into the game. Before either man could use it, Dustin Rhodes appeared and pounded the legend. The Funker fought off his Texas rival, and slammed the ladder down onto Smiley, putting on the finishing touches, and taking himself to the Hardcore Title.

Backstage, Russo warns Booker to stop making Bischoff mad. Vince says Booker can make up for it, telling Booker to follow him.

US Title Tournament Match
Scott Steiner d. Mike Awesome
In another battle of the powerhouses, Big Poppa Pump went face to face with Mike Awesome. The two beat the hell out of each other, but neither man would give up the match. As Awesome made his way to the top rope, Kevin Nash came to ringside and took a crutch across his back. Poppa applied the Steiner Recliner and scored the tainted win, moving on to the finals.

Backstage, Vince Russo fires Dustin Rhodes for not getting the job done with Terry Funk. Booker stands by and tries to calm Rhodes down.

US Title Tournament Match
Sting d. Vampiro
Sting was fired up as he looked to gain the ultimate revenge on his former "brother in paint." The Stinger gave Vamp a lashing, using the entire ring and ringside area as his battlefield. Vampiro kicked out at two after a big splash from the top. Vamp gained control, wearing Sting down with fast, power moves. Vampiro went to the top, but Sting stepped aside, sending him crashing to the canvas. After a Scorpion Death Drop, The Stinger applied the Deathlock, taking the match by submission.

Interview: DDP and Kimberly
Page said he would love to win the WCW Title, but wanted to destroy Jarrett even more. Dallas told Kim that she would get her shot before the night was over.

Suicide Six Man Cruiserweight Title Match
Chris Candido d. The Artist with Paisley, Lash LeRoux, Juventud Guerrera, Shannon Moore and Crowbar with David Flair and Daffney
Shannon Moore and Shane Helms performed their hit song, "Can't Get You Out Of My Heart." As they sang on, the other participants hit the ring, getting the Suicide Six Man underway. The first man to gain the pinfall would be the new champion. Guerrera delivered the Juvi Driver, by was stopped by the former champion, The Artist. Daffney climbed to the top for a huracanrana, but caught Crowbar on accident. Crowbar was laid out by Lash on the outside and a series of dives over the top rope followed. The brawl continued on the floor, with only The Artist and Candido taking it back into the ring. When Paisley slid a chair into the ring for her man to use, Candido's long time manager, Tammy came to the rescue, pushing The Artist onto the chair, taking her man to the top of the Cruiserweight division.

Interview: Jeff Jarrett
The Chosen One told Gene that he would slap the liver spots off of his head. Jarrett was confident and told Gene that there was no way he would lose the match against DDP.

WCW World Tag Team Tournament Final
The Franchise Shane Douglas and Buff Bagwell d. Team Package with Elizabeth
Russo, with bat in hand, came to the ring with Douglas and Bagwell, joining the announcer's at the table. Bagwell apologized to Package, but was kicked in the midsection on the handshake. The New Blood team worked over Package, before he made the tag to the Nature Boy. Flair tore into The Franchise with stinging chops, showing why he is the dirtiest player in the game. Bagwell slammed Flair off the top rope and moved in on the 14-time champion. Douglas and Flair proved their hatred for each other as they fought with fire in their eyes. When the Nature Boy went for the figure four, Russo got up from the table. He swung the bat, but hit Douglas an accident. Flair covered Shane, but Russo pulled referee Nick Patrick out of the ring. As the two shoved each other on the outside, Brian Clark and Brian Adams entered the ring and double slammed Package. Russo thumped Patrick, took his shirt, and put it on. He rolled in and counted three, proclaiming Douglas and Bagwell the new WCW World Tag Team Champions.

Interview: Scott Steiner
Big Poppa Pump said that his one arm was as big as both of Sting's put together. He told Gene to get the Stinger so he could beat him up.

Interview: Sting
The Stinger told Steiner and The New Blood that they couldn't run from The Millionaire's Club.

US Title Tournament Final
Scott Steiner d. Sting
Both men were former US Champions, and knew the prestige that came with the title. Poppa Pump jaw jacked with the fans as he powered the Stinger around the squared circle. Steiner went to the top after Sting, but was pushed down to the mat. Sting drove in with a splash, but referee Billy Silverman was caught between the two. Another splash was delivered and Sting was on his way to victory. As he set up for a third, Vampiro ripped through the canvas from underneath, pulling the Stinger into the hole. As the world waited, Vamp re emerged, pushing a bloody Sting back onto the mat. Steiner woke up the referee and cinched on the Recliner, winning the US Title by submission.

WCW World Title Match
Jeff Jarrett d. DDP with Kimberly
Jarrett took the long walk down the hallway from his dressing room, preparing himself for the most important match of his career. Page and Kim took the same walk, hoping to become the three-time WCW Champion. Jarrett charged first, but DDP ducked and started swinging. Page got a two and a half count after a DDT in the center of the ring. After both men went to the floor, Page held Double J as Kim slapped him across the face. Soon, the fight was in the crowd in the back of the arena. Back in the ring, Diamond was dropped across the turnbuckle as he climbed to the top. Jarrett brought a chair into play and slammed it across Page's back. The Chosen One continued to work on the already injured back of DDP, doing anything he could to attain the win. Page delivered a sit down powerbomb, but only got two. Eric Bischoff stood in the aisle, watching the action from afar. As Jarrett pulled DDP's legs around the ringpost, Kim pulled Jeff off by the hair. Diamond turned the tables and crotched Page around the ringpost. Charles Robinson went down, allowing Jarrett to lay out Page with the title belt. Miraculously, Dallas kicked out, and the match continued. Bischoff moved closer to the ring, as Kim came back with a guitar in hand. Page fought out of a Double J figure four and the two battled on adrenaline alone. A series of near falls occurred before Jeff caught Diamond in a sleeper hold. DDP reversed it and slammed Jarrett to the canvas. Bischoff distracted Robinson as Page applied a Diamond Cutter. He signaled to Kim, who entered the ring with the guitar. Dallas held Jeff, but Kim brought the six-stringer down across her husband's head. Jarrett drove DDP down with The Stroke and got the 1-2-3, finally realizing his dream of becoming the WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Kim and Bischoff hugged over Page's fallen body, as Russo entered the ring with the rest of the New Blood champions as Spring Stampede faded to black.
