HEALTH NOTES
"Take A Loved One To The Doctor Day" September 24th, 2002
ABC Radio Networks and the Tom Joyner Morning Show
has collaborated with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on
"Closing the Health Gap,
a breakthrough public awareness program to educate African-Americans on how to improve their health.
According to the Office of Minority Health,
the average life expectancy for the African-American population
is 71.3 years as compared to 76.7 years for the general American population.
By comparison to the general population , health conditions
such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and HIV
are all high among African Americans.
Through awareness, education and action…we want to bridge the gap.
In the weeks and months to come you can come to TomJoyner.com to receive valuable resources
and information relating to health, medical services
and what strides are being made to close the health gap in our community.
