Autumn's Nightmare by Megan

“Where are we going?!” Autumn shrieked as the car spun out of control. Her voice turned into a silent whisper of terror when a gun was pressed in further into her ribs.

Earlier that day had been quite boring. Autumn had woken up like usual and went straight to her computer. She had a bunch of her online friends coming to her board to talk to. After about a half an hour the usual freaky guy came on to scare everyone but she encountered that everyday. Today he had a new line. He said, “ I know where you all live and I’m coming for you.” She had laughed at him along with the rest of her friends but something twinged in the back of her mind.

Autumn’s mom, Apryl, was coming over to take her to breakfast so Autumn typed her farewells and ran off to get dressed. She looked out the window and saw a car sitting oit in her driveway. “hmm… I wonder why she didn’t honk,” she asked herself before she ran out the front door. She jumped into the car without looking over at the passenger. Automatically she said “hi Mom.” And started rambling on about school.

“Shut up and Drive!” came a gruff response from an odd voice. Autumn nearly choked as she looked over at the passenger. A man very unshaven with many scars and tatoos was sitting next to her. She couldn’t keep from looking at his nasty orange jumpsuit. He noticed she was looking at him and pulled out a gun and pressed it into her ribs. She gasped trying not to breath too hard of the gun would poke a hole into her. She drove for about 10 minutes before she could sort out her thoughts. The first thing was instant fear. It sliced through her mind like an ax taking a last chop on a redwood tree. Immediately following came the dark icy hand of panic. The fear and panic went hand in hand as the Honda Accord bounced down the highway with sickening bounces. AS she pushed the couple into a little corner in her mind she took long careful breaths as to not force the man to press the gun in further.

Finally he said gruffly, “Go ‘cross state line. No where else or ye’ll be feelin’ yer lungs in yer throat.” Her body went rigid but she resumed her calm breathing. The mant then started to tell his story as it seems most villians do before they kill the heroine, she thought tensely. “Well, I just dug out’er jail just dis mornin’. Found dis here car just sittin’ outside yer house wid some ole lady in it.” Autumn sucked in air trying not to think of her mother that she assumed was the “some ole lady”.

“Yup,” he continued, “shoved her out in ta some ditch. Now yous gotta drive me over state line so I’s can get outta this godforsaken state.” Autumn gave out a quiet sigh of relief as she realized her mother was not hurt. It orrcured to her that she might be if she wasn’t careful.

She had managed to slow quite a bit while he was talking. She was hoping for a cop to pull her over for a ticket. Instead the man figured out what she was doing and whistled in a low threatening voice, “You better speed back up, little girl, or ye’ll be seein’ fireworks.”

As she passed yet another billboard she sped up very quickly. She noticed she was very lucky and there was a cop behind the billboard. He pulled out and followed her without his lights on at a wide distance away. Come on! She thought, though it sounded like she was screaming it in her mind.
