FADE IN:

INT. FOX MULDER’S APARTMENT – NIGHT
FEBRUARY 13

Mulder sits at his couch listening to “Unchained Melody” by the Richteous Brothers. Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and he wants to do something special for a very special Special Agent. But does this Special Agent feel the same way that he does? That’s what he doesn’t know. He longed to know.

“I hunger for your love.” the song sang to Mulder.

Mulder understood this. All he wanted was for Agent John Doggett to feel the same way. He needs him to know how he feels. Maybe he feels the same way. Whenever Mulder would be about to tell John how he felt about him, someone would walk in.

It has been hard for Mulder to work along side that handsome Special Agent and remain professional. Doggett never showed any interest in Mulder as Mulder did for Doggett.

But all that was going to change. Mulder had let too many things slip by him. Alex Krycek had slipped away from him. Walter Skinner was his superior, there was no way Mulder could ever express his feelings for him. Mulder had given up on ever finding true love, but then came John Doggett. And things were going to change. There will be no holding back now.

Mulder wore a nice suite with a red tie on Valentines Day. He never looked any better. Today was the day he would tell John Doggett how he felt. But fear of rejection stilled brewed in Mulder’s thoughts.

As Mulder continued to walk down the hallway of the FBI basement, he passed a glass cabinet. He stops to make sure his tie is on straight and his hair is still good. He looks good, so he continues to walk to John Doggett’s office.

Don’t let Agent Reyes be in yet. Mulder thought to himself. He didn’t think he could tell John if Agent Reyes were there.

He knocks on the door.

The bold, beautiful, rough, yet friendly voice of John Doggett came through the door. “It’s open.”

His tone rang in Mulder’s ears. He had never heard such a strong voice before. Every time John Doggett spoke to him, it made him melt inside. If only he could tell him… now is the time.

Mulder slowly opened the office door and entered the room.

Agent John Doggett sat alone in his office at his desk. His sleeves rolled up to his elbows, his tie loosened. His posture was very commanding. He is a good agent. One who is in control of himself, and his actions.

Doggett looked up at Mulder and smiled.

“Good morning Agent Mulder”.

“Good morning Agent Doggett.” Mulder replied.

Do it now, what are you waiting for?

“I just wanted to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day.” Mulder said with a smile.

“Thank you.” Doggett answered, very professional. “And happy Valentine’s Day to you too, agent Mulder.”

“Please, call me Fox.” Mulder said.

“Fox?” Doggett questioned. “I thought you only let people you are very close to call you Fox.”

Mulder paused, he was doing it.

“I know.” Mulder said, a sudden serious tone in his voice.

“Oh?” Doggett asked.

“I feel very close to you.” Mulder said.

“You do?” Doggett asked.

Mulder looks at him. Wanting more than anything to just spit it out.

“Yeah. We’ve both been through a lot in our lives.” Mulder said. “We both lost someone very close to us.”

“Yeah. I guess you’re right.” Doggett said, oblivious to Mulder’s obvious feelings.

“John?” Mulder asks.

“Yeah?”

“I have these feelings.” Says Mulder.

“Feelings? You haven’t been talking to Monica have you?” Doggett asked, half joking about how Monica is always talking about her paranormal feelings, and all that kind of mumbo-jumbo hocus-pocus.

Mulder laughs, half at Doggett’s comment, and to calm his nerves.

“That’s not what I’m talking about John.” Mulder said, serious once again.

“Oh?” Doggett asked.

“I have feelings for you John.”

Doggett looks at him, no answer.

“The kind of feelings you probably don’t have for me.” Mulder said. “I love you more than just a friend, John.”

Doggett has no reply. He’s speechless. He had no idea Mulder had this feeling for him.

“I understand that you probably don’t feel the same way for me, but I just had to let you know.” Mulder said. “I hope I haven’t offended you.”

Mulder says nothing more, hoping that Doggett will say something.

“You haven’t offended me, Agent Mulder.” Doggett said. “But there can never be anything with us that is more than friendship.”

Mulder hung his head low. He knew Doggett didn’t feel the same way.

“I understand, Agent Doggett.” Mulder said, disappointment in his voice.

“I’m sorry Agent Mulder.” Doggett said. “I love you as a friend, but nothing more.”

“I understand.” Mulder said.

Mulder leaves the office. Doggett goes after him.

“Mulder.” Doggett calls after him.

Mulder stops in the hallway and turns around to face him.

“Yeah?”

“How about we go to a movie tonight, as friends.” Doggett asks. “I’m not doing anything, and I’d love to spend more time with you. I haven’t really gotten to know you that well.”

“That’ll be good.”

“After work?” Doggett asks.

“Yeah.” Mulder said, a smile on his face.

Mulder turns and leaves to go to his own office. He did it. He finally told Doggett how he felt. Even if he doesn’t feel the same way, no friendship was ruined. A good friendship can be tarnished if a romantic relationship forms and then goes to disaster. With the happy thought that he and Agent Doggett will be friends for the rest of their lives, we…
