Blessed She Stands

Part 7
By Queen Undead

Chapter 25

When the clouds rolled in the foursome retreated into the house. The girls although not pleased decided to take in their indoor surroundings. Taker lead Jamie away towards the back of the house to show her the studies and larger library. Kane took Alex upstairs to explain the portraits and tapestries that hung on the wall. Jamie entered the library ahead of Taker and was stunned by the shelves from floor to ceiling covered in books on every subject. She slowly headed for the shelves to her right lightly touching the dusty books, some looking as though they haven't been touched in over a hundred years. She turned and looked at Taker who was still in the doorway.
"May I?" She asked quietly.
"You may do as you wish." He replied, gesturing his hands forward. Jamie turned and started examining the books again and picked out a rather large book she studied the cover, it was bound in what felt like leather with silvery writing the title stated *"Innocence of the soul". Jamie cradled the book in her arms and moved to a large overstuffed chair she curled her feet up under her and opened the book. Taker watched her from the doorway his eyes never waivered as she moved freely about the room. He felt that strange feeling again, and he was hearing a voice in his head, it wasn't his voice, it was much quieter and softer as someone were speaking through a wall or a pillow. In dreams, one may never know true love, and one may find true love and never open their eyes to it... the voice faded in Taker's head. He gripped the door frame to hold his balance, he knew that he was hearing Jamie's thoughts but not why he was hearing them. Jamie was losing herself in the book quickly, but her thoughts went to Taker as he stood in the doorway. She could feel his thoughts alarming at first then calming as he heard her. She couldn't figure out if she was imagining it or if it was real, then the feeling was gone so she dismissed it as her imagination opening up to the book. Taker backed up slowly into the hallway to shake off the effect that Jamie had on him.

Kane led Alex up the stairs to the second level of the enormus house, he began pointing out who the portraits are of and why they were positioned as they were around the house. Alex was intrigued by the quality of the work and the intricacies of the designs.
"Alex?" Kane asked slowly.
"Yes" Alex replied turning away from the violet tapistry to look up at Kane.
"Do you remember anything that happened to you last night?"
"No, I don't, why? Should I be worried?" Alex asked immediately dropping the happiness to her voice.
"Well I don't think you should be worried, but I think you should know what you did last night." Kane said sitting down on the stairs motioning for her to sit next to him. She moved slowly her mind protesting and starting to shut down, you don't want to know, let it alone, don't let him tell you. it screamed. Feeling as if she was moving through a sea of molasses sat down next to Kane and waited for him to continue, as he spoke slow and raspy, her mind began retriving bits and peices of her dream it had tried to bury. By the time he had finished she was telling it with him from her perspective. She looked up at him with watery eyes.
"Oh God Kane, now what do we do?" She was almost pleading with him.
"We try to get you to control it, it only comes out with your anger or if someone you love is threatend. We use that to bring it out then we get your conscious mind to comprehend it then control it."
"You seem to know what you are talking about why is that Kane." Alex asked intrigued. Without a word he got up and motioned for her to follow him, he led her back down the stairs into the sitting room, he waved his hand at the fireplace and a huge roaring fire appeared.
"Because you see, I can do it too." He said. Alex was in awe at the magnificient power that she and him shared.
"So there is hope for me to control it?" She asked staring at the fire.
"Yes." Kane replied.
"When do we start trying to control it?" Alex asked. She sat on the couch drawing her knees up protectively. Kane sat down next to her and tentitively placed an arm over her shoulder.
"We can start whenever you wish, it's not up to me, it's your power and your decision." He replied. She leaned herself over and rested her head on his massive chest.
"Thank you Kane, I will want to soon, now I'm afraid I might hurt someone." Alex breathed a little easier, and relaxed herself again. "Kane tell me about you, this house, and your brother, how is it you can do these things. And what power does your brother have, and what do you think Kalmars next move will be. Kane listened to her request and lowered his head.
"That is too much for me to talk about, but I can try and show you, through pictures." He said hopefully. Alex figuring he meant a scrapebook of somekind aggreed, but became slightly scared when he placed his hand over her eyes.
"Don't be afraid I'm going to show you in your mind. Just relax and stay open to me." He soothed her back down to her relaxed state. Kane began to concentrate on his childhood and his brother. Slowly Alex began to see his life, she saw the fire that scarred his face and body. She saw the wars that raged between him and his brother and their reconciling to where they are now. She saw thier childhood in this house and the rebuilding of it many years later after the fire. She felt his joy, pain, sorrow, hate, and his fears for her and Jamie. When he removed his had she swayed a bit and opened her eyes slowly, tears had overrun her eyes and spilled down her face. She looked at him and slowly leaned over and hugged him, and placed a light kiss on the side of his mask. Kane hugged her back, but stiffened slightly at the pressure of her lips on his face. Then he relaxed again as she rested her head on his shoulder.

Chapter 26

Taker had left Jamie while she was immersed in the book. He wasn't sure if he was reading her thoughts or if she was projecting them to him. Kane, bring Alex to the library so she can sit with Jamie, I need to talk to you now, his mind sent. Kane released his grip on Alex and motioned for her to follow. Alex was puzzeled but followed Kane out the sitting room, and to the library where Jamie was. Jamie didn't look up from the book she was reading when they entered. Kane whispered to Alex.
"Wait here, I'll be back in a bit." and he turned around and headed even further to the back of the house. Alex mulled around the books before sitting opposite Jamie. Jamie still hadn't noticed she wasn't alone, she couldn't take her eyes from the book.
"What are you reading, Jamie?" Alex asked.
"It's called Innocence of the soul." Jamie replied still not looking up.
"Is it any good?"
"Yes, it's very interesting." "What's it about?"
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say Taker and Kane but living a different life almost an older life." Jamie said.
"What??" Alex asked again, more bewildered than ever.
"I can't explain it, I just know that they are talking about Taker and Kane."
"Okay then." Alex sat back and closed her eyes. Her body cried for rest after her talk with Kane and what Jamie was telling her. She slipped into a light doze while listening to Jamie describe some of the book to her.

Kane found Taker sitting in one of the lesser used room, the dust disturbed from Takers foot swirled about the air. Kane silently approached him and waited. Kane stood opposite his brother who was sitting on the floor leaned up against the wall.
"Brother, you and Alex have a bond, and now it seems Jamie and I have one as well." Taker said and informed Kane about what happened in the library.
"Well what are you going to do about it?"
"Nothing for the moment, I don't want her to think I'm crazy."
"With all she's seen you honestly think...." Kane's trailed off Takers icy glare made sure of that.

The sky grew dark and Jamie finally put the book down she leaned over and nudged Alex.
"Come on sis rise and shine." She whispered. Alex returned a string of unintelligable sounds.
"Come on WAKE UP!!" Jamie yelled and shoved her sister. "What?!" Alex yelled sitting up.
"Time to get up." Jamie teased.
"Fine, fine, fine, I'm up." Alex waived her off, stood up and streched.
"Hey sis? I've been thinking."
"Oh no that can't be good." Alex said. "Thanks Alot! No I was thinking maybe we should get out of here for a while. Go shopping see a movie, Anything." Jamie explained with puppy dog eyes.
"Oh boy you and shopping I don't think I could stand it." Alex said with a smile.
"Yay!! Let's go." Jamie said jumping for the door.
"Wait. How are we supposed to get there?" Alex asked.
"Oh. Well let's go find them and ask."

They left the library in search of Taker and Kane. After searching all the rooms they could find they returned to the kitchen to wait. A short time late the men appeared in the doorway. Jamie bounced out of the chair and over to Taker.
"Oh, taker I have a question." Jamie said
"Yes?" Taker replied. His green eyes glinting with amusement.
"Alex and I want to go to the mall."
"No." Taker said immediately.
"But." Jamie started
"No, It's not safe." Taker said again. Alex looked up to Kane, he looked down seeing the hurt for Jamie in her eyes.
"I'll talk to him." Kane whispered. And pushed Taker out of the room. Alex and Jamie sat down to wait again.

Out in the dining room Kane and Taker stared at each other.
"Why did you tell her no?" Kane asked.
"You know why! Don't play games Kane, they aren't safe even here. How can they be safe without us somewhere else."
"But they aren't forced to stay here brother, we all know it. If they want to go we can't stop them."
"Fine but we won't know if they get into trouble."
"I know and they are adults and can take care of themselves."
"Or so we hope." They both turned and reentered the room. Jamie and Alex both looked up. Taker stepped ahead of Kane.
"Allright, But you got to promise me you'll be careful."
"Yay!! Yes Taker we'll be careful."

Alex and Jamie went upstairs to get ready while Kane and Taker waited in the foyer. Alex appeared first her dark hair pulled back away from her face. She wore an oversized tee-shirt with black jeans and boots. Jamie appeared a few minutes later she wore her hair down, and was dressed almost identical to Alex except for the color of her shirt. Taker looked them both over then turned to Kane. They all grasped hands and when Jamie and Alex were aware of their surroundings again they were in shadows of the mall.
