Levin Mammoth Site

Here the fun begins again. This is the second humerus found at the site. These bones are 39 inches long and weigh 40 pounds. April 19, 2000.

This is one of the mysteries of the site. These bones are the zygomatic arches. On a human they are located on the side of the skull and behind the eyes. These bones are the only one found that would have been above the upper jaw. The oddity is that both bones have holes in them, where they shouldn't be. One bone has one hole and the other one two. A possible explanation is that this skull was preyed upon by a predator. Both of the holes are about the right size that would be made by a member of the cat family, such as the Sabertooth Cat, the American Lion, or the short-faced Bear of the Pleistocene Period.
