The storyline…
The series, set in suburban Connecticut in a little town called Star’s Hollow, follows Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham, Townies, NewsRadio) and her 16-year-old Daughter Lorelai Gilmore better known as Rory (Alexis Bledel). Lorelai was sixteen when she had Rory, and refused help from her overly wealthy parents, Emily (Kelly Bishop, Dirty Dancing) and Richard (Edward Herrman, The Practice). Therefore placing a wedge in their relationship. After Rory gets accepted to the prestigious Chilton Private School, Lorelai realizes that she can’t afford the five thousand dollar up front tuition cost on her salary as manager for the Independence Inn. So she calls her parents and begrudgingly asks for money to pay for the school. They agree to it under one condition—Lorelai and Rory MUST come and have dinner with them every Friday night. Along with all of this Emily decides that since she is paying for the school then she should be there on Rory’s first day. This turns out to be a disaster. Lorelai wakes up late and has no clothes because they are at the cleaners, so she shows up at Chilton in Daisy Dukes and cowboy boots. Emily’s presence only makes the situation worse, mainly due to the fact that Emily disapproves of Lorelai’s independent lifestyle. Emily also tries to purchase clothes and other accessories that Lorelai deems unnecessary. Couple this with a parking space and it is all too much. After Lorelai finds out about the parking space she storms into her mother’s beauty shop and tells it to her point blank that Rory is her daughter and no one purchases anything for her but Lorelai. Rory on the other hand is not having a blast at Chilton. First she has the popular Paris Gellar(Liza Weil) on her case all the time. Second, she has all the boys especially Tristin Du Gray (Chad Murray) at school calling her Mary. And she misses her best friend Lane Kim (Keiko Agena, Felicity), and her new boyfriend Dean (Jared Padalecki). The series is also highlighted with a menagerie of townies. Everyone adds a bit of flair to the series. Michel Girard (Yanic Truesdale) Lorelai’s cocky French conceierge at the inn is a little annoying, but loveable at the same time. His raw sarcastic attitude matches Lorelai’s bit by bit. Then there is Sookie, Lorelai’s clumsy but whimsical best friend and cook for the inn. Sookie is an excellent cook but very accident-prone. Aside from the inn, the other characters add spice too. First there is Luke Danes (Scott Patterson, Little Big League), he owns the local café and satisfies Lorelai’s coffee fixes, all the while adding quirky comments and making fun of Lorelai. Then there is Miss Patty (Liz Torres, The John Larroquette Show), the playful local dance instructor. It is almost certain she has a bit of a screw loose. Not to forget, Lorelai And Rory's neighbors Morey(Ted Rooney, Celtic Pride,The flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas) and Babette(Sally Struthers,All in the Family)Dell. Creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino really made a hit when she created this excellent mother-daughter team. Gilmore Girls is a hit a big hit. This show is one of the best shows to be turned out this year. I recommend this show highly, a wonderful show for families of all ages.
