The Replacements
Keanu Reeves, Gene Hackman, Brett Cullen, Orlando Jones, Brooke Langton, Faizon Love, Rhys Ifans, Ace Yonamine, Art Le Fleur, Jon Favreau, Michael Talliferro
Likeable. Just plain likeable. When Players go on strike the owner of the Washington Sentinels (Le Fleur) hires replacement players (Reeves, Jones, Love, Talliferro, Ifans, Yonamine, Favreau, and a host of others). Shane Falco(Reeves) is a washed up college football player. Clifford Franklin (Jones), Jamal and Andre Jackson(Love and Talliferro), Jumbo Fumiko (Yonamine)are miscellaneous football players from all over the place. They add some of the humor but don’t take up a lot of the storyline. Not a lot is given about them. Nigel “the Leg” Gruff (Ifans) is a gambler who is willing to join the team as a kicker to get away from some people he owes money to. I think the real funny man of this movie is Daniel Bateman (Favreau). Bateman is a S.W.A.T officer and linebacker. He adds the wacky crazy loves to tackle wild man image to this movie. Then there is Annabelle Farrell (Langton), the loveable head cheerleader. And we can’t forget Cullen who plays the rude crude lewd Quarterback Eddie Martel. He adds a bit of animosity and hatred to this movie. Annabelle and Falco fall in love in the movie which in a way is kind of weird and out of place in this movie but also pretty typical of this movie. Throw in a host of Cheerleaders who in their second job work as strippers, and you got a wild funny side splitting movie. Yes the plot has been played out but it was different than most of these nobodies to heroes this one was funny.
