The Memories Of Our Journey
You know, whenever you travel, whether on vacation or because you're being transferred from a minimum security prison to a maximum security
penitentiery...penetintiery...penitiniery...prison, you should always take advantage of the local culture and nightlife that you just can't experience at home.In Atlanta, we were privileged to be able to enjoy some of the local culture -- the sights, the sounds, the activities, the people; they all added to our adventure. For instance, one evening we ate at a casual dining restaurant which came highly recommended by the locals.
I ordered a leg, a thigh, a breast, and some chicken. :)
We actually did eat there, and that Hooters is in what's known as the Atlanta Underground -- think sort of an underground strip mall right beneath downtown Atlanta. Here's a shot of the entrance:
And here's what the mall looked like if you were looking down from the outside:
We stayed in the Howard Johnson Underground Plaza Suites. No, the hotel wasn't some massive Hilton-like structure built underground -- I stayed on the 5th floor. The words "Underground" and "Plaza" are one phrase -- the "Underground Plaza" is the entrance to the Atlanta Underground. Our hotel was right in that Plaza, literally within 20 feet of the entrance. Here's our hotel...
And from our window we had a lovely view of the...ghetto.
But anyway...more about the Tournament and its competitors in Part IV.
