Conduct of a Raid
.NOtes
- short weapons *car15, mp5a5, famas, aug, ect* are best for assault troops. not knowing how colse they are going to be to the enemy leaves these troopers needing a weapon that is both short and manuverable, but also has a great deal of firepower inherent in its design.
- support teams are sniper/spoter teams *psg1, g3sg1*, or fire support teams *m60*.

Raid
A raid is conducted by a combat patrol whose mission si to attack a position or installation for any or all of these purposes
Destroy the position or installation
destroy or capture troops or equipment
liberate personel
Suprise, firepower and violence of action are the keys to a raid
Supirse is best achieved by attacking-
1 when the enemy may least expect an attack
2 when visibility is poor
3 from an unexpected direction- ie, approaching from the rear or through seemingly impassable terrains such as a swamp.
Fire is concentrated at critical points to suppress the enemy.
violence is best achieved by gaining supprise by using massed fire and by attacking aggressibely.
Conduct of a Raid
The patrol moves to the orp as described for a recon patrol. the orp is secured, the leaders recon is conducted and plans are confirmed. elements and teams move to their positions. if possible their movements are coordinated so that all reach their positions at about the same time. this improves the patrols capabliity for decisive action if it is detected by the enemy too soon.
Security element
the teams of the security element move to positions from which they can secure the orp give warning of enemy approach, block avenues of approach into the objective area, prevent enemy escape from the objective area, or preform any comboination of these tasks within their capability.
as the assuault and support elements move into position, the security element keeps the patrol leader informed of all enemy action. it shoots only if detected or on the patrol leaders order.
once the assault starts, the security element prevents the enemy entry into or escape fromt he objective area.
when the assualt is completed, the security element covers the withdrawl of the assault ands upport elements to the orp. it withdraws itself on order or on a prearanged signal.
Support element-
the support element moves into position prior to the assault element so that it can suppress the objective and shift fire when the assault starts. it normally covers the withdrawl of the assault element fromt eh immediate area of the objective. it witdraws itself on an oral order or on a signal.
Assault element-
The assault element deploys close enough to the objective to permit immediate assault if detected by the enemy. as supporting fire is lifted or shifted the assault elements assaulst, seizes and secures the objective. it protects demolition teams, search teams and other teams whil they work. on order or signal, they withdraw to the orp.
at the orp the patrol reorginalizes and moves out to disseminate information. durring this period, reorginization, ammounition is redistrubuted, casualties are treated, and status reports are given.
security elements should be a mix of long range firepower , and mid range firepower. squad automatic weapons, and rifles are best in this situation.
leaders should have radio communications with squad/element leaders, that way unit co-ordination can be maximized, and extra firepower can be called apon in an emergency. also for co-ordinating the withdrawl following the raid.
one assault element should be detailed to collecting inteligence in the aftermath of the raid. collecting papers, photographing equipment and personel, and other important duties. the information collected at this point may make the next raid all that much easier.
