X-Rated Music
I was raised in the city,
Shitty ever since I was an itty,
Bitty kiddy drinkin liquer off ma momma`s titty,
And smokeing weed,
was an everyday thing in ma house hold,
and drinkin liqure till I`m out cold.
Though I`m grown now,
Nigga it`s still all pow.
Bustin` on they bitches till they gone.
How many nigga`s will talk shit
Cause I got ma pistal switch,
So now it`s on.

Those are lyrics by 2pac, that could be a good example
of lyrics that should be censored, but I think
that lyrics should not be censored due to explicit
content. Everyone has their own since of self,
and their own since of expression, everyone should
have the right to be heard, no matter what kind of
background that person has had.

There have been many efforts to slow the release of
records and make censorship easier. One pro-censorship
case in Louisiana would require the listener
to be of the age of seventeen to obtain a CD with
a parental advisory sticker on it. It seems
that the major area under criticism is rap. Dr. Dre
and Snoop Doggy Dogg have been singled out by many for
their lyrics, even Bob Dole has critiqued their artistic style.

The point everyone argues is that censorship is
contradictory to the constitution of the United
States. The constitution clearly states that Americans
have the freedom of speech. Freedom thinkers
built our Country. How is expressing yourself
wrongful to another person? Many of the rappers that
are critiqued for their lyrics are only using
strong words to express their strong feelings.

The censorship of things such as our everyday art
will most likely lead up the censorship of
other things, such as the news that the government
will let the American people know. If they are afraid
of how a few curse words effect children’s minds
how will the news of actual bombings of a
country effect their behavior. The censorship of
everyday things that may not radically change
anyone’s world, will ultimately lead to the
censorship of things that will change the world.
These views aren’t just suggestion or ideas but
they are the truths to come.

Loud music with anger has actually held up to
being a stress reliever. For a parent I can see the
concern. Music with bad language might give
them ideas to call their family in time of an argument.
Also parents are not always made aware of the
lyrics to which their children listen to, because of
their children using headphones and listening
in other places than home. In most case’s a parent
doesn’t even know that the parental advisory
label exists, therefor don’t make use of it.
Almost all teenagers know they can beat the system
but yet they keep the label on there anyway.
But I don’t think of it as extending a nasty
vocabulary. I think of it as being made aware.

Isn’t all music art? Well they have always said
that music is art so they can’t say Rap, or hard core
rock isn’t without being either opinionated or even
hypocritical. They say nudity is an art? Well should
you start making a museum an 18 or older gathering?
Who is it that decides what’s art and what’s not?
Think about that.

I guess my writing won’t change your opinion but
atleast it will give you another way to look at it
from the point of view of the ones you are trying to
enforce those laws upon.
