A sought-after composer of educational literature, Jeffrey S. Bishop’s works have been commissioned and performed throughout the United States. The recipient of the 1997 National School Orchestra Association Composition Contest Award with his Symphony for Strings No. 1, Jeffrey has since had several pieces published by C-Alan Publications, the Neil A. Kjos Music Company, and Wingert-Jones Music. His works have been performed at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the American String Teachers Association National Conference, the Kansas Music Educators Association In-Service Workshop, the Central Oklahoma Directors Association Conference, and at several regional events across the country. Jeffrey is currently the director of orchestras at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in suburban Kansas City. He teaches three string classes each day, assists with the band program, and is division coordinator for fine arts at the high school. In addition to his daily class schedule, he also conducts the Northwest Symphony Orchestra and the Northwest Early Music Ensemble. Both of these groups meet outside of the regular class day. The Northwest Symphony Orchestra was selected to perform at the Kansas Music Educators Association In-Service Workshop in 2002. The SMNW Orchestras have consistently earned the highest ratings at state and national contests under his direction. Jeffrey is a member of the American String Teachers Association, the Music Educators National Conference, the Kansas Music Educators Association, the Northeast Kansas Orchestra Directors Association, the Texas Orchestra Directors Association, and the American Society for Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). While in college he was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity and Kappa Kappa Psi Band Fraternity. Jeffrey earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in Instrumental Music K-12 at Northwest Missouri State University and his Master of Music in Conducting at the School of Music, Wichita State University. He currently lives in Prairie Village, Kansas with his wife, three high-maintenance cats, and one very spoiled dog. |
