Basically, I use the power filter as a reservior to put filter media such a Seachem Carbon and Phosguard in the Bio-Bags. The Bio-Bags also help trap any unwanted particulate matter. The power filter also contains a Flow Control Knob, which allows for slower flow rates at feeding time to keep food out of the filter.

Heater:
Ebo Jager 150 watt
Ebo-Jäger "LZ" model submersible heaters, with their calibrated dial,
adjust easily and have a 2-mm. thick Pyrex glass tube - twice
as thick as most other heaters. All come with a six-foot cord
and are covered by a one-year warranty.
Lights:
2x55 watt Power Compacts and 1x20 watt Standard Fluorescent
The light fixures contain (1) 55 watt 10,000K Ultra Day Power Compact Bulb, (1) 55 watt Blue Actinic Power Compact Bulb and (1) 20 watt Actintic 03 Standard Fluorescent Bulb. Each light fixure has it own powercord and timer to simulate dawn and dusk. The Actinic 03 is activated at 12:00 noon and shuts off at 11:00pm. The Blue Actinic is activated at 1:00 pm and shuts off at 10:00 pm. The Ultra Day is activated at 2:00pm and shuts off at 9:00pm.
