Blade Runner

Some of the information on this page is from this site here.  You really should visit it if you're interested in Blade Runner...

What Is Blade Runner?

Blade Runner is a 1980's film which has influenced basically every sci-fi and future-based film since it's release.  Directed by Ridley Scott, and based on a short novel by Phillip K Dick, it has developed a cult-status among millions of fans world-wide, and has created a stunning view of the dark near-future (the film is set in Los Angeles, 2019). Although seen as disturbingly depressing when it was first released, as time has moved on, it can now be seen as increasingly realistic prediction of what our world will turn into - watch the film and you'll find out what I mean.

What Is Blade Runner About?

The best of the human race has departed for greener space pastures, leaving the dregs to mill around in the congested, rain-drenched streets, speaking an unrecognizable language. Harrison Ford plays Rick Deckard, an ex-"blade runner" (detective/android killer) who reluctantly accepts a "freelance" assignment tracking down a group of androids, known as "Replicants," who have mutinied on a space colony and returned to Earth, seeking to prolong their short life span by altering their programmed mechanisms.

Yeah sure, it sounds kinda corny.  But this film is about *atmosphere*.  If it wasn't for the atmosphere this movie created, it would have been just 'another movie'.  But it is now known as one of the greatest sci-fi and futuristic films ever...

Here are a few pictures from the film, but remember; this film is about atmosphere, and that is aided immensely by the brilliant soundtrack by Vangelis (see bottom of page).  These pictures do not do the film justice!  By the way, I captured them from the Directors Cut version of the film...
