Notes:  Steve Bono starts for the injured Joe Montana.  After the two teams trade punts for the first few minutes, John Elway puts together an 8-play, 61-yard drive that culminates in a 1-yard touchdown run by RB Reggie Rivers.  The Chiefs get the ball and Bono hits WR Eric Martin for a 61-yard pass play, the Chiefs’ longest of the season, that sets up a field goal.

After TE Shannon Sharpe effortlessly finds the end zone in the third quarter, the Chiefs offense wakes up and drives 76 yards in 2 minutes.  RB Marcus Allen punches into the end zone, but the two-point conversion fails and the Chiefs trail by 5.

The KC defense sacks and harasses Elway on Denver’s next drive, and the Broncos have to settle for 3 points, giving them an 8-point lead.  When KC gets the ball back, Bono hits WR Willie Davis with a 63-yard touchdown pass, and the two-point conversion is successful this time, tying the game.

Hugh Millen comes in for the injured Elway, and the Chiefs treat him just as badly.  Kansas City’s favorite (not) kicker lets them down at the end of regulation when his 37-yard field goal attempt is blocked, forcing overtime.

The two teams trade fumbles and punts as the KC offense fights hard but Bono stinks up the field.  Denver is finally able to move into field goal range and Elam kicks the game winner with 2:53 remaining in OT.

The Chiefs defense sacks the Denver QBs five times.
