Notes:  The Lions, with the # 4 rushing defense in the NFL, face the Chiefs at Arrowhead in this interconference matchup.  Just as the Lions start finding their offensive stride, S Gary Barbaro comes up with a key interception.  RB Horace Belton comes up with a 55-yard reception, and a few plays later TE Mike Williams catches the 4-yard TD pass to put the Chiefs up 10-0.

The NFC rushing leader, Billy Sims, begins to have more success late in the second quarter but the Chiefs manage to keep him out of the end zone and they go into the half leading by 7.

The Lions come out strong after the half but cannot score on their opening drive.  After forcing a couple of Chiefs punts the Lions strike quickly by running Sims in from the Chiefs’ 45-yard line.

QB Steve Fuller fights his way into the end zone to put KC ahead again, but the Lions, aided by a stupid KC penalty and a lot of brilliant rushing by Sims, tie the game up again.  KC’s balanced attack enables them to move within field goal range, and K Nick Lowery (sans moustache) puts the winning points on the board.

Sims, who rushed for 155 yards, set a new Lions record for rushing yards by a rookie.
