James MacPherson threw for nine touchdowns and 307 yards in a 92-52 rout of the
Kansas City Brigade. MacPherson and
company recorded 12 team touchdowns on their way to the second most points
scored in AFL history. The Rampage
threatened the all-time scoring record of 99 held by the 2001 New York Dragons.
Former Brigade wide receiver Anthony Hines caught four
touchdown passes and recorded a game high 117 yards in a Rampage (1-2) victory. Kenny Higgins, who was named iron man of the
game, contributed two touchdowns. One of
those scores came on a kickoff recovery in the Brigade end zone. 12,943 fans filed into Sprint Center
in what many thought was going to be a close
game. The Rampage led 21-17 at the end
of the first quarter and never looked back.
The Brigade (0-3) committed five turnovers in what was
the most points ever allowed by the third year franchise.
Brigade quarterback Matt Kohn made his Kansas City debut on Monday night. Kohn rushed for a team and season high 58
yards. Kohn, who was selected from Nashville in the 2007
dispersal draft, was 19-36 for 281 yards and threw four touchdowns. Jerel Myers led the
way for the Brigade receiving core as he went for 114 receiving yards and
snagged two touchdowns.
Rampage wide receiver Kenny Higgins was in the right place
at the right time. With 2:59 left to
play in the first half Higgins recovered a muffed kickoff in the Brigade end
zone and opened up a 42-24 lead on the Brigade.
The fumble was one of five costly Brigade turnovers.
