Notes:  Baltimore QB Stoney Case (15/37, 103 yards, 3 INT) is leading a productive drive when CB James Hasty picks off his pass, putting KC on the offensive.  The Elvis Grbac-led offense can’t move the ball against Baltimore’s defense, however, and they punt it away after three plays.  The rest of the first quarter is a defensive slugfest, with Baltimore’s only scoring opportunity wasted on a missed field goal.

The missed Ravens field goal seemingly wakes the Chiefs offense up, as they move downfield and score on a 12-yard pass to TE Tony Gonzalez.  The two teams again trade punches until the clock expires, and KC goes into the locker room with a 7-0 lead.

In the third quarter it’s KC’s turn to waste a scoring chance as K Pete Stoyanovich misses to the right of the upright.  Later in the quarter James Hasty again intercepts Case, this time running it in for a touchdown.

The Ravens defense shows signs of wear in the fourth quarter, and Grbac runs the play-action fake well enough to get the ball to Tony Gonzalez in the end zone, beating Darren Sharper in the process.  On Baltimore’s next possession, LB Donnie Edwards picks off Case, then laterals to S Reggie Tongue who runs it in for another defensive touchdown and a 28-0 lead.  QB Tony Banks comes in for Case and leads Baltimore to a score when RB Errict Rhett carries it in, then FB Chuck Evans walks the ball in for the two-point conversion.  The Chiefs recover the onside kick, and three solid runs by RB Bam Morris result in another KC touchdown and the decisive win.

GAME NOTES:

Baltimore’s 51 passing attempts were the most against the Chiefs since San Diego tried 65 passes in a 42-41 Kansas City win (10/19/86).

It was the first two-TD game of Tony Gonzalez’ career.

Punter Daniel Pope set a career high with eight punts for 359 yards.

Kansas City’s 16 pass attempts vs. Baltimore were the club’s fewest since Dave Krieg tried 15 passes in a 24-14 win at Seattle (11/22/92).

Kansas City’s 9 pass completions vs. Baltimore were the club’s fewest since Elvis Grbac/Rich Gannon completed 8 passes in a 25-13 win vs. New Orleans (12/21/97).

Kansas City is now 4-0 in Thursday night games.

The Chiefs have at least two interceptions in five straight games.
