Notes:  The Chiefs knew they had to stop the run in order to dethrone the reigning three-time AFC Champion Buffalo Bills on their home turf.  Unfortunately, the 229 rushing yards amassed by the Bills provided all that was necessary in a 30-13 AFC Championship Game setback at Rich Stadium.  Although the Chiefs were outgained by just 51 yards (389 to 338), they allowed RB Thurman Thomas to gain 186 of those yards.

Kansas City was in uncharted territory as the club was playing in its first-ever AFC title game and vying for its first Super Bowl appearance since ’69, while the Bills were playing in an unprecedented fourth straight AFC Championship Game.

The addition of Joe Montana helped Kansas City get to the conference championship game, but they ultimately fell short of the title.  Buffalo’s stifling ground game punished the normally run-stingy KC defense.  Thurman Thomas rushed for over 100 yards in the first half, while the Bills defense shut down Kansas City’s offense.  Montana and Allen were no threat to the Super Bowl-bound Bills.

Thanks Tommy!
