Notes:  Kansas City gets the ball first, but despite a 6-yard pickup by RB Theotis Brown QB Bill Kenney goes 0-for-2 and the Chiefs punt the ball away.  Dallas QB Danny White fares better, hitting WR Tony Hill for a 58 yard completion that sets up 1st and goal.  The Cowboys score 2 plays later and take their first 1st-quarter lead of the season.  On the next KC series Kenney’s third completion is to Dallas DB Michael Downs, but the Cowboys are unable to get the first down and they punt the ball back to the Chiefs.  After some back and forth the Cowboys add a field goal at the end of the first quarter.

A fake punt in the second quarter allows Dallas to keep their drive alive.  RB Tony Dorsett makes it pay off with a 28-yard touchdown run, putting him over the 8,000-yard mark.  S Deron Cherry gets his seventh interception of the year with 3 minutes remaining in the half, but Kenney throws another interception, this time to DB Ron Fellows.  The Cowboys tack on another field goal to make their halftime lead 20-0.

KC gives up another sack early in the third quarter, this time fumbling the ball away.  Dallas turns it into another Dorsett touchdown, this time from 32 yards.  The Chiefs finally put together a decent drive but stall deep in Dallas territory.  K Nick Lowery misses the field goal, but Dallas is flagged tor running into the kicker so the Chiefs get a first down.  On the next play Kenney hits WR Carlos Carson from the 13 to make the score 27-7.  When they get the ball back, Kenney again hits Carson from the Dallas 48, a perfect pass right into the receiver’s arms at full speed to make the score 27-14.

Lowery misses a 51-yard field goal early in the 4th quarter, and Dallas uses the good field position to put another touchdown on the board, this time a 7-yard run by RB Timmy Newsome.  QB Todd Blackledge comes in to run the KC offense but can’t get anything going, and RB Gary Allen returns the ensuing punt 67 yards for a touchdown.  The Chiefs put up another touchdown just before the 2-minute warning, a 7-yard Blackledge toss to WR Stephone Paige.  Dallas gets the ball back, but instead of kneeling on it the run the ball and fumble it away.  KC drives to the Dallas 28 but turn the ball over on downs, and Dallas finally goes to the victory formation.

Dallas’ 5th-ranked offense matches up against Kansas City’s 5th-ranked defense.  The Cowboys rack up over 400 yards total offense for the 5th time in the season and notch 4 sacks.  Bill Kenney passes Len Dawson for the most single season passing yards.

Thanks Kevin!
