Notes:  CB Dale Carter intercepts QB John Elway on the KC 13, stopping the Broncos’ opening drive, but after gaining a first down with RB Marcus Allen’s rush, QB Steve Bono can’t make anything happen for the Chiefs.  After a Denver punt, Bono again fails to connect with any receivers and KC punts.  Denver gets great field position, and this time Elway cashes in with a 9-yard touchdown toss to TE Shannon Sharpe.  Bono finally completes his 8th pass on Kansas City’s next drive, then he runs the ball in to tie the game.

The Chiefs mount a strong drive to start the second quarter, but the kicker who shall not be named, foreshadowing his failure later in the year, misses a field goal from 35 yards out.  KC’s defense prevents the Broncos from putting up any more points, and when Elway fumbles trying to pick up a yard LB Tracy Simien falls on it and gives the Chiefs the ball at the Denver 30.  WR Lake Dawson then catches a 14-yard rocket to put the Chiefs up by a touchdown with 2:45 left in the half.  Denver gets the ball back, but the driving sleet prevents Elway from getting the ball to his receivers and the half is over.

The sleet turns to snow in the third quarter and the Chiefs’ opening drive turns to points as Allen scores his 100th career rushing touchdown.  Allen, who rushed for 122 yards, also became the first back to rush for 100 or more yards in a game since RB Ed Podolak in 1974.  This win marked the Chiefs’ first back-to-back wins in Denver since 1971-72.

Denver mounts a good drive in the snowy fourth quarter, but Carter puts an end to it with his second interception of the day.
