Notes:  QB Todd Blackledge leads the Chiefs to score on their opening drive with Nick Lowery kicking a 42-yard field goal.  After the teams trade punts, QB Dave Krieg leads the Seahawks on a strong drive that results in a 35-yard Norm Johnson field goal.  After LB Greg Gaines forces a fumble from Chiefs RB Herman Heard, Seattle turns it into another field goal for a 6-3 lead.  Seattle’s league-leading defense holds KC in their own territory, and Krieg finds WR Daryl Turner in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown.

In the second half, the Chiefs force a Seattle punt, then make it a three-point game on a 70-yard touchdown pass to WR Carlos Carson.  After the Chiefs defense steps up, Norm Johnson hits a 53-yard field goal to make the score 16-10 and keep the momentum in Seattle’s favor.  S Kenny Easley intercepts Blackledge in KC’s ensuing possession and the Seahawks put up 7 more points by running RB Curt Warner into the end zone.  S Deron Cherry comes up with a key interception to prevent a Seattle touchdown, but the Chiefs cannot capitalize on the gift.  After Norm Johnson misses a 26-yard field goal, CB Eugene Robinson comes up with a touchdown-preventing interception.  The Chiefs defense holds again, and the offense is able to drive downfield.  The touchdown is too little, too late, as RB Jeff Smith scores with 4 seconds left on the clock.

Chiefs RB Mike Pruitt passes the 7,000 rushing yards mark.
