Notes:  Marty Schottenheimer and the Chargers come to Kansas City looking for their first win at Arrowhead since 1996.  QB Drew Brees leads his team on a dominating opening drive, but the Chiefs defense holds firm to force a 29-yard field goal attempt that misses.  The Chiefs can fare no better and give San Diego great field position on a short punt.  Brees then tosses a 55-yard pass to WR Eric Parker, and 2 plays later RB LaDainian Tomlinson punches it in for his first touchdown ever at Arrowhead.  The Chiefs answer with a 60-yard drive that results in 5-yard touchdown run by RB Derrick Blaylock.

KC goes ahead in the second quarter on RB Larry Johnson’s first NFL touchdown after a 94-yard drive.  The Chargers come back on their next drive from 2nd and 23 and score on LT’s short touchdown run, tying the game again.  KC tacks on a field goal with 45 seconds left, then San Diego K Nate Kaeding misses for a second time at the :08 mark to send the Chargers into halftime trailing by 3.

WR Dante Hall fumbles the ball on the opening kickoff of the second half after running it back to the San Diego 5, but KC’s defense forces a San Diego punt.  After Kaeding ties the game later with a field goal, the Chiefs go on a drive that carries over into the fourth quarter.

On the first play of the last quarter Blaylock carries in from 22 yards out.  K Lawrence Tynes misses the PAT, and the Chiefs lead by 6.  After a Chiefs penalty wipes out a sack by Lionel Dalton, Drew Brees finds TE Antonio Gates at the front of the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown pass and the lead.  Dante Hall puts KC right back on top with a 96-yard kick return for a touchdown, then QB Trent Green hits WR Eddie Kennison for the 2PC, putting the Chiefs up again by 7 points.  The Chargers tie it yet again with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Gates, capping a 69-yard drive.  LB Donnie Edwards gives San Diego the ball back when he picks off Trent Green and the Chargers kick a field goal for the final lead exchange of the game.

This is the infamous “Priest Holmes eating nachos” game.
