Biodiversity

What is Biodiversity

Biodiversity is a variety of organisms in a given area. There are thought to be about 3 million species, possibly 30! So far there are 3 million classified and described.

Threats on Biodiversity

  • Human population-Humans taking over habitat and adding new things into ecosysmes like polluting.
  • Pollution-Changes the environment and also adds harmful chemicals that should have never been added to the environment.
  • Climate change-Climate change affects how animals live greatly by causing things, such as food, to become harder to get.
  • Deforestation/Habitat loss-Talkes away places that contain everything the organism needs and some can't survive without their specific environment.
  • Invasive species-Adds new predaters that weren't there beforem

What we are now doing to help

  • Ecotourism
  • Debt-for-nature swap
  • Conservation biology
  • Restoration biology

My opinion

I think that we need to do what we can to make biodiversity flourish once again. The things that we are doing, such as pollution, doesn't only affect fish and other animals, it affects us too. If we don't do anything about pollution and deforestation and other threats on biodiversity then, according to scientists, a lot of organisms would be gone by the year 2030! I think that, that is a sign that we need to change our ways and work towards making our planet a better place and biodiversity is a key thing in doing just that!
