Summary: Does Agent Doggett have a poltergeist or is it just his friends from the other side?
Spoilers: None.
Author's Note: This story is one of my favorites. I wrote it trying to get out of writer's block... so if you've seen the movie Poltergeist, you might see where my inspiration comes from. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Doggett, Krycek, Marita, The Well Manicured Man (aka: Daddy Covarrubias), Scully, Skinner, or Mulder. They belong to Chris Carter, 1013 productions and 20th Century FOX. Satori (aka: Ellen Polaski)belongs to John Brancato and Michael Ferris, Delusional Pictures, and NCB broadcasting. I do not own the cartoon Tom & Jerry... FADE IN:

INT. DOGGETT'S HOUSE - NIGHT

The TV is on with Tom & Jerry playing. Doggett is asleep in his chair. The whole room is dark, save for the TV light... which gives off an eerie glow as it turns to static. This should remind us of "Poltergeist" the movie. A small giggle is heard from beneath the static. The song "Wonderful, Wonderful" begins to play through the static. Dancing footsteps are heard above... waking Doggett up.

Doggett groggily lifts his sleepy head up and looks at the TV as the song and giggles are still heard. Doggett, in disbelief, shakes his head... trying to clear things. He gets up from the chair and sits in front of the TV... looking at the static. The song continues , but the giggles and footsteps stop.

DOGGETT
(sleepy)
What the hell...

The song stops playing as Tom & Jerry suddenly pops up on the screen, startling Doggett. He stands up and looks around the room... almost expecting to see who or what ever was in his TV... but nothing. He turns off the TV, and heads up the stairs to fall asleep... this time in his room.

Once his door is shut and all is quiet, the TV comes back on with static. The pail blue light illuminates the room.

MARITA
(through static)
Do you think we woke him up?

KRYCEK
(through static)
I hope not.

MARITA
How is it that he could hear us?

KRYCEK
Maybe through the TV... do
you think we are poltergeist?

MARITA
You've been watching too much TV.

KRYCEK
Kind of ironic... we're
in a TV.

Krycek laughs through the static.

MARITA
Do you think we'll find
the other's again?

KRYCEK
I don't know... we're kind of
lost... and with no Helpers.

MARITA
Maybe Doggett can help us.

KRYCEK
How?

MARITA
Doesn't he know some psychic chick?

KRYCEK
The hot one?

Through the static we heard Krycek get whacked by Marita.

KRYCEK
I wonder if I can enter
his dreams and ask for help.

MARITA
Oh yeah... like you know
how to do that. (long, long beat)
Alex? Where'd you go?

The TV turns off.

CUT TO:

INT. DOGGETT'S DREAM

He is dreaming he is in a cop chase. Chasing a crappy blue car.

DOGGETT
(into radio)
Suspect is armed and dangerous,
heading down (beat) He just pulled over.

The blue car has pulled off to the side, and Krycek gets out.

DOGGETT
Krycek?

Krycek runs up to Doggett in a police car.

KRYCEK
Hey man!

DOGGETT
Why the Hell are you
in my dream?

KRYCEK
Marita and I need your help.

Doggett gets out of his car.

KRYCEK
We've lost the others... Mulder
Skin Man, and Scully.

DOGGETT
Why come to me?

Krycek wonders this himself.

KRYCEK
Well... I don't know... somehow
we ended up in your TV.

DOGGETT
That was you?

KRYCEK
And Marita... we were dancing.
But that's not important. (beat)
What's important is... is that we
need to find the others.

DOGGETT
Why? Why is it so important?

MARITA
Because they are the only
ones we know on this side.

Marita startles Doggett. She just came out of nowhere.

DOGGETT
Marita? I don't understand this...

KRYCEK
Well, without them, we are-

DOGGETT
No... I get that... but I
don't get how I'm able to
talk to you right now.

MARITA
When you are in the dream state,
your vibrations are the same as
ours... which makes us able to communicate.

KRYCEK
It's gettin' fuzzy, Marita.

MARITA
John, you have to help us. Please.

SMASH CUT TO:

DOGGETT'S EYES FLY OPEN!

DOGGETT
(sitting up)
Whoa!

We are in his bedroom. He looks at his watch. 3:28 in the morning... just about the only time he ever sees anymore...

TIME CUT TO:

INT. SATORI'S PSYCHIC READINGS - AFTERNOON

Doggett hesitantly enters the room. Satori comes out with an old woman. They are talking softly. Doggett can't hear them. The old woman leaves. Satori turns to him.

SATORI
Here to call me a fraud again?

DOGGETT
No... I need your help.

This catches Satori's attention.

DOGGETT
Actually... it's not me... it's
uh... my friends... on the other side.

Satori gives him a smile.

SATORI
So you believe in my work now?

DOGGETT
(changing subject)
Last night, I fell asleep in front of
my TV... and when I woke up it was all
static... and I could hear the song
"Wonderful, Wonderful" playing, and
giggles coming from the static.

Satori listens.

DOGGETT
It gets stranger. I could hear
footsteps... like dancing. Then
I had a dream... and my friends
asked for my help...

SATORI
What's their problem now?

DOGGETT
They've lost their friends...
pathetic... I know.

SATORI
Are you sure it was you
friends? That's awfully vague.

DOGGETT
Well it looked like them...

SATORI
Poltergeist can be tricky.

DOGGETT
What? Now you're suggesting
that I have a poltergeist in my home?

SATORI
Yes... suggesting, not stating.

Doggett thinks this.

DOGGETT
My trees aren't going to eat me, right?

SATORI
Only if you're in a movie.

DOGGETT
That's good. I'm not in a movie.
Are you going to help me help my friends?

SATORI
I can't.

DOGGETT
You can't or you won't?

SATORI
Can't.

DOGGETT
Why not?

Satori takes a deep breath.

SATORI
Well it's obvious that your friends
need help. Right now they are missing
living and are confused. The help they
want is to be alive. I can't help them,
and you can't. It's not possible. The
only help we can provide for them
is to guide them to the light.

Off Doggett's look...

CUT TO:

INT. DOGGETT'S HOUSE

His door opens and Satori and Doggett enter. The TV is off and everything is quiet.

SATORI
They're happy... that's good.

Doggett shuts the door.

DOGGETT
(a little nervous)
Uh... can I get you any
coffee or uh something?

Satori is looking around the room.

SATORI
No thank you. (beat)
Is this the TV you
were talking about?

DOGGETT
Yeah...

He turns it on. It's static.

SATORI
Talk to them.

DOGGETT
What?

SATORI
You'll have to let them know
you are helping them. Talk to them.

Doggett looks at the TV.

DOGGETT
Krycek? Marita?

Nothing but static.

DOGGETT
(looks up at Satori unsure)
Uh... I have help for you. (beat)
Krycek? Marita? Are you there?

KRYCEK
(through static/pathetic)
Hey man!

SATORI
Ask him if Marita is with him.

DOGGETT
Krycek?

KRYCEK
(pathetic)
What?

DOGGETT
Is Marita with you?

KRYCEK
(pathetic)
No.

Doggett looks to Satori.

SATORI
Krycek... where is she?

KRYCEK
(crying)
He took her away.

SATORI
Who did?

More static.

DOGGETT
Did we loose him?

SATORI
Krycek? Who took-

KRYCEK
(crying)
I don't know... an evil evil man.
(beat) We were practicing our
dancing and he came and took her.

SATORI
Did you know this man?

KRYCEK
He reminded me of Homer Simpson.

DOGGETT
The cartoon?

KRYCEK
Yeah.

Satori and Doggett exchange a look.

DOGGETT
Was it Skin Man?

KRYCEK
(getting more upset/crying)
NO! Remember I don't know
where he is! I'm all alone!

They hear running foot steps from above.

SATORI
Krycek... we're going to help you, ok?

KRYCEK
I don't like being dead anymore.
I miss eating Chinese food.

SATORI
Krycek... is there a portal
to the other side in this house?

KRYCEK
(confused)
A what?

SATORI
Like in the movie "Poltergeist"...
is there a way to where you are?

KRYCEK
(not too sad now)
Yeah. The basement door.

SATORI
Ok... Krycek... Doggett's
going to come get you.

DOGGETT
(fast)
What?

Satori gives him a reassuring look.

SATORI
You'll have to get Marita, and
go back to the other side, ok?

KRYCEK
(pathetic)
But I want to stay there.

SATORI
But then you'll never see Marita again.

KRYCEK
(not pathetic)
Ok... I'll become dead again.

SLIGHT TIME CUT TO:

INT. DOGGETT'S HOUSE

They have opened the basement door where there is a bright light. Doggett is preparing to go to the other side. It's very loud in there...

DOGGETT
(yelling over loud noise)
I thought this only
happened in the movies.

SATORI
(yelling over loud noise)
If it were the movies, we'd
kiss by now, so go get him!

Doggett gives her a look, and out of nowhere he kisses her. Then he looks towards the blinding light and goes in.

SATORI
(to herself)
I hope this works...

CUT TO:

THE OTHER SIDE

Krycek is standing alone. He waves at Doggett. Clouds have surrounded them. When they talk, they kind of echo.

KRYCEK
How's it goin'?

DOGGETT
Let's get the hell out of here.

KRYCEK
Yeah... and get me
some Chinese food!

Krycek gets a goofy grin on his face. Doggett takes Krycek by the arm...

CUT TO:

INT. DOGGETT'S HOUSE

Doggett and Krycek fall to the ground with a thud.

SATORI
(shocked)
It worked!

Doggett gets up off the ground. Krycek lays there for a moment.

DOGGETT
Krycek?

KRYCEK
(laughing)
Holy heck I'm alive!

Satori kneels down to him.

SATORI
Are you alright?

Doggett helps him sit up.

KRYCEK
(like nothing odd just happened)
I'm good. How've you been?

DOGGETT
This is unbelievable.

CUT TO:

INT. CHIN CHONG DAO CHINESE RESTAURANT - EVENING

Krycek's favorite restaurant... a small restaurant that isn't that busy. Soft Chinese music is playing. A waitress brings them their food. Doggett brushes a cockroach off the table. Satori is with Krycek and Doggett... just to make sure his vibes are ok. They are sitting in a booth in the corner.

KRYCEK
(eating his food)
Ahh... my favorite.

Satori and Doggett smile at him. They continue to eat.

KRYCEK
I miss the living... I
mean... once you're dead
you can't go back... It's
so good to be back.

SATORI
Krycek... I know you want
to stay, but you can't.

Krycek doesn't say anything he just looks down at his plate of food and eats, not wanting to go back to The Other side.

DOGGETT
Is there anything you want
to do before you go back?

Krycek looks up pathetically.

KRYCEK
(sounding poetic)
I want to feel the sun's warmth
on me... to run in the sand
bare foot... and feel it...

SATORI
It's evening... the suns down.

KRYCEK
Dammit!

There is a beat of silence.

KRYCEK
(more serious)
How about... to give
Daddy Covarrubias a hug.

DOGGETT
Marita's father?

Krycek shakes his head 'yes' as he finishes his meal.

TIME CUT TO:

EXT. COVARRUBIAS MANSION - SOMEWHERE OUTSIDE OF LONDON - NIGHT

It's a starry night at the Covarrubias mansion... only outside lights light the estate... all the lights inside are off. A car pulls up the long drive.

Krycek, Doggett and Satori exit the car... they flew the concord. They quietly walk up to the door. Krycek rings the bell. A few moments later, lights come on. The door opens... it's the Well-Manicured Man (aka: 'Daddy Covarrubias'). He's dressed in a vertically light blue and white striped pajamas with a Santa Claus-like hat on his head that matches his pajamas, slippers on his feet. He does not look happy. Upon seeing Krycek, he looks shocked... as would be expected.

WELL-MANICURED MAN
(about to have a heart attack)
Alex?

KRYCEK
(arms spread out)
Daddy Covarrubias!

He gives him a hug.

WELL-MANICURED MAN
(surprisingly happy)
We all thought you were dead...

KRYCEK
I came back.. only for a
little while though...

WELL-MANICURED MAN
(confused beyond belief)
What?

Krycek stops hugging him.

KRYCEK
I came back to save your
daugh- (beat) How've you been?

WELL-MANICURED MAN
Where's Marita?

KRYCEK
She misses you, sir... but
she's in trouble on the Other
Side... I have to go save her.
(beat) I just wanted to let you
know that she is doing ok.

The Well-Manicured Man stares at him blankly. Krycek doesn't realize that he just negated himself... again.

KRYCEK
Well... I have to go save
your daughter now. (beat)
(quietly) I miss you, sir.

They quickly walk back to the car and drive off. The Well-Manicured Man continues to stand there.

TIME CUT TO:

INT. DOGGETT'S HOUSE - THAT NIGHT

They are in his living room. All the lights are off, and Tom & Jerry are muted on the TV. Krycek and Doggett are sitting on the floor with their mugs of root beer floats. It's very late, and Satori is sleeping on Doggett's couch.

KRYCEK
I love these. (beat)
Ya know, on the other side,
we don't get these.

DOGGETT
I can imagine.

They sit and watch Tom & Jerry some more. Doggett seems as if he has a thousand questions to ask Krycek... all of them running through his head at once.

DOGGETT
This is just so amazing, Krycek.
I never thought I'd see you again.

KRYCEK
(trying to be poetic again)
You can see me anytime ya know.
Just look deep into your heart.
We're all there. We're always there.

Doggett just looks at him for a beat trying not to burst out laughing at him. Then he can't hold it in any longer, and they both burst out laughing.

KRYCEK
So, John. You and this
psychic chick... I think
you make a good couple.

Doggett looks over his shoulder at Satori sleeping. He just shrugs.

KRYCEK
Oh come on man. You
mean to tell me you
don't think she's hot?

DOGGETT
Well....

KRYCEK
(smiles)
You can tell me anything...
I'm gonna be dead again tomorrow.

DOGGETT
(after a beat)
I guess.

Satori moves a bit behind them, but she's not awake.

KRYCEK
I think you should go for it.

DOGGETT
I can't believe I'm taking
dating advice from a man
who's dead and has been
obsessive over the same woman
his whole life.

This makes them laugh.

DOGGETT
So what's it like on that side?

KRYCEK
Well... if I told you,
there wouldn't be anything
for you to look forward too
when you die.

He gives him a sly smile.

KRYCEK
Everyone is good. We've met
some pretty interesting characters
on that side...

DOGGETT
I thought you said you were
all alone on that side...

KRYCEK
I did... I was just making
all that up. (beat) But, um
everyone is ok. I just want
to find them again. (beat) Think
we should get some sleep before tomorrow?

DOGGETT
You're right.

With that, they put their empty mugs back into the kitchen and Krycek sits in Doggett's lay-z-boy chair and attempts to sleep. Doggett puts a blanket over Satori and finds himself a blanket and a small pillow and falls asleep on the floor.

INT. DOGGETT'S HOUSE - NEXT DAY

Krycek, Doggett and Satori are standing in front of the basement door... the blinding light shines out at them. Krycek is starring into the basement light.

KRYCEK
Here goes nothing!

DOGGETT
Good luck!

KRYCEK
You too, man!

Krycek gives Doggett a wink. Satori is standing back.

DOGGETT
We'll miss you!

Doggett and Krycek shake hands for the last time. Then Krycek quickly gives him a hug and then jumps back to the Other Side to save Marita.

CUT TO:

THE OTHER SIDE

Marita is with the evil evil Homer Simpson looking man. She looks terrified of him. Suddenly she spots Krycek as he comes up behind The Homer Simpson Looking Man and knocks him over the head. Krycek puts out his hand to Marita and help her up (a la: Back To The Future)

KRYCEK
Are you ok?

Marita shakes her head 'yes'.

TIME CUT TO:

SOMEWHERE ELSE ON THE OTHER SIDE

Swing music is playing, and Scully and Skinner are on the dance 'floor'... uh... cloud... with others. Some that died during the World Wars, etc... Mulder is at a bar talking to someone as Marita and Krycek come up behind him.

MULDER
-and then-

KRYCEK
FBI, freeze!

Mulder turns around and sees Marita and Krycek, he smiles.

MULDER
Oh hey! Where've you been?

MARITA
At Doggett's.

MULDER
Oh... how's he doin'?

KRYCEK
Great.

TIME CUT TO:

Marita and Krycek are now on the dance floor as a slow jazzy song plays.

KRYCEK
(whispers softly in Marita's ear)
There's something I
haven't told you.

MARITA
What's that?

KRYCEK
When I was gone, and the scary
Homer Simpson Looking Man took
you, I was brought back to The
Other Side by Doggett... and I
went to see your dad, and I told
him that you were ok.

Marita stares at him blankly.

MARITA
You were alive?

KRYCEK
That's how I was able to save you.

Marita gives him a smile, as he pulls her in closer as we begin to pan up taking in a full view of the party as we...

SLOWLY DIVE THROUGH THE CLOUDS

over Daddy Covarrubias' mansion... It's a bright and sunny morning... birds are chirping... and Daddy Covarrubias is still standing at the front door with the same expression on his face from when we last saw him. A butler approaches him.

BUTLER
(dead pan/English accent)
Croissant?

Off The Well-Manicured Man's blank look we:

FADE OUT:

THE END
