BROADWAY BEANIES

What are they?

At the very least Broadway Beanies are regular Beanie Babies with ribbons and in one case, pins for the show they represent attached. At the best, they are keepsakes to remind you of that special show. All Beanie Babies for The Phantom of the Opera bear red ribbons around their necks stamped with the show title in gold. They should also have an enameled metal pin with the Phantom’s mask pinned to this ribbon.

But what are Beanie Babies?

Beanie Babies are a line of affordable plastic pellet-filled plush animals that have heart-shaped tags (called hang tags) that include their names and birth dates. Invented by Ty Warner and first marketed in 1993, Beanie Babies became a national obsession when adults noticed these fluffy toys. A secondary market soon erupted, causing Beanie values to skyrocket. Happily, the market has leveled off and interested collectors can find shelves of the stuffed critters at official retailers worldwide.

So where do I get a Broadway Beanie?

The Internet is your best bet, but secondary market dealers also carry them. You can generally get better prices on the Internet, but you can see what you are getting with the secondary market dealer. For more info on buying Phantom collectibles click here.

The following list gives the names and any original decorations (those you would see on these Beanies outside a Phantom gift shop) of the Beanies from the Phantom gift shops. Beware of Beanies that aren’t listed, as it is very easy to take the show pin and ribbon from one Beanie and put them on another. You should never for example, see Seamore the seal with a ribbon, no matter what the seller tells you. Also know that there are many factors that affect pricing, including the product’s condition, hang and tush tag condition, extras such as ticket stubs, and what you the buyer are willing to pay.

Fleece would like to sing a lullaby
But please be patient, she’s rather shy
When you sleep, keep her by your ear
Her song will leave you with nothing to fear.

Original decoration: None.

Nibbling on a bamboo tree
This little panda is hard to see
You’re so lucky with this one you found
Only a few are still around!
Link to musical: Black and white like a Phantom’s evening clothes, this bear also sports a permanent white mask. Original decoration: This Beanie should also have the normal red ribbon issued on all Fortunes.
