A Phantastic Fourth

Rose Rydall video cover Rose

Can you celebrate the fourth of July with Phantomal flair? Of course! Fight on like our brave ancestors and celebrate at least part of the day in true fan form. Just remember to keep the main focus on our founding fathers and those who have and are still fighting for our freedoms.

Patriotic films

Watch any Phantom films based right here in the good old USA. I’m thinking of such offbeat gems as Phantom of the Mall: Erik’s Revenge and Phantom of the Ritz. You can also check out films with great American actors like Lon Chaney and Robert Englund.

Foodstuffs

Here’s where you stick with tradition. Bar-b-q, hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, popcorn, fried chicken, apple pie, and a nice tall Coke should be on the menu. Or whatever the grill master has planned.

Fireworks

Every American knows you need lots of firepower to celebrate the fourth. Attend fireworks a show or put on a mini show at home. Just think safety first if putting on your own show. Some Phantom-type standbys include smoke cones and anything that sparks or flames like his staff. There are even Phantom-brand fireworks for the die-hard phan.

Music

You should be popping in some patriotic albums of course, but there is room for Erik too. Try listening to recording of American orchestras or soundtracks to the American films. This is also a grand excuse to play the 1812 overture as preformed by the Boston Pops tremendously loud at 4 AM. Your neighbors will thank you.

Decorations

Flags, flags, and more flags. Put the red, white and blue in places of prominence and honor. As red, white and blue also happen to be Phantom colors, tastefully include white masks, red roses, or a blue-checked tablecloth for your fourth spread. You can also decorate with those flag masks or hand them out at your fete.

A slight word of caution:

Of course, if you have a lot of guests not in the know, carry on your more Phantom-themed celebrations at night. The idea of the day is after all, to celebrate being American. So consider an all-American celebration to dusk, then drag out the films and amps after the family leaves.
