Cassie's "Via Negativa" Review

Calm John Jay Doggett

Hip! Hip! Hooray! For Frank Spotnitz! This episode is awesome! The story is unlike anything we have seen on The X-Files before. The idea of opening your third eye to become closer to god is interesting. The idea of the psychic assassin is interesting as well. Tipet was able to get into the mind of his victims in order to kill them and it seemed to only work while his victims were asleep. He made his victims believe they were being killed and they believed it so it happened..

I love that Scully was in the hospital, not only did it allow for Doggett and Skinner to work together, but it also suggested that Scully is having complications with her "pregnancy" Woo Freakin' Hoo!!

Doggett finally gets to meet The Lone Gunmen! That scene is one of the best Gunmen scenes we've had in a long time. Their silly discussions and arguements LOL Literally ROTFLMAO! I love that Doggett doesn't believe what is going on, yet he will believe that Tipet believes he has the power to kill while his consciousness is separated from his body. After Tipet severs his head, Kersh tells Doggett the case is closed, and Doggett can't understand how it's closed without any murder weapon or forensic evidence.

He's not sure he's awake...

We get more characterization of Doggett, we learn that his worst nightmare is killing (losing) Scully. Tipet tells Doggett in his last dream that Scully will die, Doggett says he will not let him kill her, then Tipet opens all 3 of his eyes and tells Doggett that he will kill her. Yet right as he's about to ax Scully, he turns the ax on himself ... he'd rather kill himself than her... awww... :)

The acting in this episode is the best I've seen. Robert Patrick's performance was excellent. It's great to see an actor get so much into his work. I love how Robert works with Mitch in the Skinner Office scene, when he tells Skinner he's not sure he's awake. Wow!

I'd like to officially state that I've forgiven Scully 2 of her sins (for waking Doggett and saving his life). 1)Not permanently hooking up with Ed Jerse in 4x13 "Never Again" and 2)Not giving Skinner any tongue during their kiss in 6x03 "Triangle". ;) But just remember Scully... not all sins will be forgiven... especially "Requiem" Scully. Blah!

Anyway... Via Negativa is right up there with Invocation this season as my favorite episode. Keep up the great work guys!!
