Kristi's "Badlaa" Review

January 22, 2001
6/5

Blue does this man wonders.

"Badlaa" amazed me. It had everything! John Shiban hits the spot with X-Files writting! Not only was this episode classic, but it also was very creepy and intense. This is what The X-Files is all about.

The first thing I noticed about "Badlaa" was the people in the teaser. They were perfect for a John Shiban episode. The episode grabed my atention from when we first faded in! It was great!

I have to say that I love how John Shiban writes Doggett! It was perfect! And finally someone has written Scully as Scully. John Shiban rocks!

Ok... so another plus about this episode was Chuck! He's cool and is never in an episode enough. But... he was in this alot! I loved it! The video of him from the 70s was, needless to say... hilarious! I've never seen anyone actually give Chuck a past and develope him. It was great!

One of the greatest scenes in "Badlaa" would have to have been the scene where Scully cuts the guy open doing the unauthorized autopsy! I've never seen such an intense scene. Have I mentioned that I love John Shiban's writing?

Confident

The music in this episode rocked! Sounds from "Fight The Future" always goes great in a Shiban episode (example: 6x10 S.R. 819)... and did anyone else notice that music from Harsh Realm was used in the scene where the kids are getting the 'janitor'!? I loved it! Also music from early great seasons was used... 2x04 Sleepless and 4x04 Teliko!

I loved the way Doggett and Scully act around eachother in this episode! They have gotten very close, and I love it! They have great chemisty. It really makes the show awesome and interesting!

Have I mentioned that I love this episode?

The directing really added to the intensity. It gave you a sense of not knowing where you are, what's going to happen, and even better... what's behind you...

The end scene I loved too! After Scully shot the guy... even though she still saw him as the boy. John Shiban brings out the great acting talent that Gillian Anderson has. I loved how Doggett handled that situation, very professional and like a friend. John Shiban rocks!

If you haven't guessed what my rating for "Badlaa" is... dollars to doughnuts... it's a 6/5! I was wowed by the power that is John Shiban.
