Malayan Flat-shelled Turtle - Notochelys platynota

This genus is unique in having six to seven vertebral scutes, most other turtles have five. This species can grow to be 32 cm and is flattened dorsally giving it its name. This turtle ranges from Thailand, southward to Malasia, Sumatra, Java and Borneo. This is the only known living species of the genus Notochelys. This specimen died in captivity.
