Twist-necked Turtle - Platemys platycephala

This South American freshwater turtle can reach 18 cm in length. There is a distinct medial groove on the carapace. This species is a poor swimmer and inhabits only shallow streams. It also can occasionally be found on the forest floor. This specimen died in captivity.
