Dorothy Byrne

Dorothy Byrne, mezzo-soprano, enjoys a successful career performing on the stages of opera, oratorio, and musical comedy. She frequently performs roles with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, most recently in Jenufa and Street Scene. With the company, she has also appeared in Romčo et Juliette, Mahagonny, Suor Angelica, Candide, The Consul, and Le nozze di Figaro. Ms. Byrne has sung Emilia in Otello and the roles of Venere and Dorilla in Goehr’s Arianna with the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Ma Moss in The Tender Land, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, and in Buoso’s Ghost with Chicago Opera Theater. Her many oratorio engagements have included performances with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Des Moines Symphony Orchestra, Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, and the Elgin Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Byrne participated in the Equity workshop of Broadway’s Parade, and appeared as the Confidante and Madame Giry in the Broadway National Tour of The Phantom of the Opera.
