We as humans have spent the last 2000 years denying our shadows, the essence of who we are and who we wish we weren't. After years of repression and shunning by the modern society and Christianity, we have learned to deny fear our and our shadow. We must now work to reclaim our shadow side and tap into its power to benefit us and make us better.
Out of these many years of repression we have grown a fear for our darker side, our wilderness. In the physical world the wilderness is dangerous, unexplored, dark, wild, nd yet beautiful and calling us to enter and learn more about our hidden fears and phobias. By exploring our inner wilderness we can learn more about why we act the way we do and why we are afraid of certain things. The animals contained within our wilderness also have messages for us. They speak to us of our subconscious. By accepting and embracing our wilderness we become stronger and fewer blocks form in our psyche.
When we accept our fears and analyse why they are and what they have to teach us and then working to over come them, we feel a sense of relief. We feel clean and renewed, or in other words re-born. By accepting our fears we take a swim in Cerridwens cauldron of re-birth and experience the world in a new light. This is a glimpse of what a complete spiritual re-birth may feel like. Here is a portion from the Book "The Druid Renaissance" edited By Philp Carr-Gomm. This portion is taken form an article written by Madeleine Johnson.
By spending more time in the wilderness surrounding us we come ever closer to our inner wilderness and the gifts it has to offer us. The farther we step into the inner wilderness more and more of our fears just disappear and dissolve into memories. But exploring out shadow side is no easy task and not to be done in one night, week, or even month. It takes time and it takes perseverance. May the path through your wilderness be blessed and guided by the Lady and Lord of the Greenwood.
