The next week came and soon it was the day that Lila was to meet the rest of Kevin's bandmates. Jack and Mary were both at work so she was left to her own devices for the morning and much of the afternoon. She was nervously waiting for Kevin to come get her, but she was so anxious and nervous that she'd get up from her seat on the couch and go look in the mirror, then decide that something didn't look good and go up the looong stairs and go change something in her outfit.
Right before Kevin arrived; she had changed three times. There was a knock on the door and she pulled it open to see his smiling face. "Hey, you ready?"
"Do I look okay?"
He looked her up and down, "Yeah..you look fine Lila."
She sighed and left the door open so he'd come in and went to look in the hallway mirror, "I look fat!"
"Lila, you're not fat. I keep telling you that. You're pregnant."
"They're gonna hate me."
"No they won't..they'll love you."
She turned her head to look at him, "Are you sure?"
"I'm positive. Now come on, they're at the house."
"Are you sure I look okay?"
"You look fine. How many times did you change?"
She looked at her feet as the locked the door behind her, "Ummm..three?"
Kevin smiled as he opened the car door for her, "Hmmm..I was thinking it'd be more like five."
Lila gave him a sweet smile, "Bite me, please."
"Ooooo such a mouth on a woman."
She waited until he got in the car and was pulling out of the driveway before retorting, "I know...but you love me anyways."
"I think it's just the hormones."
"That too."
Kevin pulled up into his long driveway. Two other cars were there, she noted. "Is your mom home?"
"Nope..she left earlier."
"Oohhhhh.."
He put the car into 'park' and pulled the keys from the ignition, "It's now or never Lila. They're going to like you, they're normal guys...well..pretty normal...sometimes."
She smiled, "I feel like I know them already from hearing you talk about them."
He shrugged, "Yeah well...they're my best friends."
She opened the door and stepped out, "Let's get this over with then."
Kevin stepped out of his side of the car and began walking for the front door, "You'll be fine."
She followed a little more slower, "Ok.."
"Don't be nervous."
"How do you do that?!"
"Do what?"
"Know what I'm feeling before I even tell you??"
He shrugged, "Don't know, I do it with the guys too though."
He opened the front door and waited for her to enter before he shut it. "HEY GUYS! GET DOWN HERE!"
It was silent for about another second, then what seemed to be a herd of elephants sounded and four guys came down the stairs at the same time. Kevin smiled at Lila, "Told ya I had them whipped."
"Dude! You so do NOT!"
Kevin just looked at the blonde, "Anyways...guys, this is Lila. Lila, these are my bandmates. That's my cousin Brian, that's Howie, AJ, and blondie there is Nick."
Lila smiled at them all, "It's nice to meet all of you after hearing so much about all of you these past couple of weeks."
Brian was the first to speak, "We've been hearing alot about you too Lila."
Kevin ushered them all into the kitchen and soon they were in the backyard talking like they were all old friends. Nick was sitting across from Lila on the patio while Kevin was inside getting drinks. "How far along are you?"
"I knew you'd ask that...how many siblings you got?"
His whole face lit up as he thought about his brother and sisters, "Four."
"You the oldest?"
"Yep."
She smiled, "Figured as much. And six."
"Six?"
She smiled again, "I'm six months pregnant."
"Ohhh..really? You know what you're going to have?"
She shook her head, "Nah..I want it to be a surprise. But some days it's a boy, and some days it's a girl. I don't like to call it and 'it'..ya know?"
"Yeah...so..how do you and Kev know each other?"
"Me and one of his friends were together.."
"Ohhh..Scott?"
"Yeah.."
Nick knew he had hit a sore spot, he had seen the look in her eyes as soon as he asked the question. "Sorry..didn't mean to bring up a sore subject..it's the blonde in me comin' out."
She finally smiled, "It's ok..I forgive you."
Kevin appeared just then and handed her a glass of water, "Water for you and Mountain Dew for Nick."
"Thanks Kev."
"We're not wearing you out are we?"
She shook her head, "Nope..I feel pretty good today."
Kevin smiled, "Good..."
It was late that night and Lila had insisted that she stay over at Kevin's instead of making him take her all the way home. It was just easier that way. She was still up and was pretty sure all the others had gone to bed.
"Hey..," A quiet voice said from the hallway.
She turned from the window to see Brian, "Hey yourself. What are you doing up this late?"
"Just woke up and couldn't sleep. Shouldn't you be sleeping?"
She shrugged, "I'm tired but monster here won't let me sleep just yet."
Brian smiled sleepily, "Been like that all day?"
"Not too, too bad. Now, he or she is awake and very, very active."
Brian stood in front of her now, a sheepish smile on his face, "Can I?"
She nodded and took his hand, placing it on her tummy, "The others have so sure, why not?"
Brian grinned even wider as the baby kicked a couple of times, "Wow.."
"Yeah..that's what I said the first time. Now, it's just annoying...sometimes."
Brian pulled his hand away, "It like that all the time?"
"Sometimes. I swear he's doing cartwheels now.."
"He?"
"I don't like calling it and 'it'...so I call 'it' he or she.."
"Have you picked out any names?"
Lila yawned and then winced as the baby gave a particularly hard kick, "I'm okay, don't worry. No..I really haven't...with everything that's been going on..I really..just haven't."
"Kevin told me about Scott. I'm sorry."
She nodded, "It's getting better, you know?"
"Yeah.."
"I just don't know what I'm going to do when the baby does come. I haven't really thought about it...I can't stay with Mary and Jack forever, no matter how much they inist that I can. I mean, I want my own place..I do. I want a place for me and him..or her to call home..you know?"
He nodded, "Yeah..I get it.."
"I don't know if I'll stay in Kentucky or not...too much is here.."
"I think Kev's the same way...he didn't want to come home and have to see the site and stuff.."
"I haven't been since the funeral..I can't just yet."
"It's still too new and fresh for you."
"Yeah..but..back to baby names..."
Brian smiled, "Ok..let's talk baby names."
"Ok.."
"What about if it's a girl?"
Lila put her chin in her hand and looked out the window, "Hmmm..I dunno...I like Alexandria.."
"That's pretty.."
"Mm hmm...I like AJ's name.."
"You do?"
"Yeah..I like Alexander James together..that's cool.."
"What about Brian Thomas?"
She laughed, "That's a very nice name too.."
"What about Nickolas?," Came a sleepy voice from behind.
Lila looked over her shoulder and smiled, "Hey Nicky...you're name is good too..come and join us.."
Nick nodded and did so, plopping down on the couch, "So..we talkin' baby names?"
Brian nodded, "Yep..we're on girls right now."
"Hmmm...oookay...lemme think.."
"Don't hurt yourself too much blondie.," Brian teased.
Nick flicked him off, "Bite me Bri...anyways...what about Brianna?"
"Hey! That's a variation of my name!"
"Shut up Brian! Geez!"
Lila laughed, "You all are hilarious! But..I do like that..ok..boys names."
"You think it'll be a boy?"
"I keep calling it a 'he' more often than not..I don't know why. It's just a feeling."
"Ok..boys names...hmmm.....what about Michael?," Brian suggested.
"Hmmm..I don't know about a first name..I like it as a middle name.," She said mid-yawn.
Nick smiled, "You're getting tired."
"I'm exhausted...but he's not done yet.."
"Can I?"
"You did earlier Nick, so sure."
Nick put his hand on her tummy and smiled as the baby kicked at him, "I don't think he likes me."
"Sure he does..if he ignored you, then he wouldn't."
"Maybe if we sang, he'd go to sleep then stop and you could sleep.."
"Never tried it, I can't sing for shit."
"Oooo such language!"
She playfully pushed at Brian, "I have hormones moving at a very, very fast pace so watch it."
"Yes ma'am."
"Ok..so try the singing...see if it'll work."
Nick shrugged, "Can't hurt to try. Bri?"
"Sure, why not?"
"Count it off Bri.."
They did and soon they were singing softly to her tummy. Lila wanted to laugh, it seemed so funny that they were singing to her very, very pregnant tummy at that moment. But she didn't it was such a sweet gesture.
They sang a full song and stopped. Lila smiled, "I think it worked...I may be using your vocals for awhile if this works for the rest of the night."
Brian laughed softly before yawning, "Call us if you need us. Now, it's time for bed young lady. Come on Nick, let's put her to bed."
They helped her from the couch and led her into the bedroom where she was sleeping for the night. They tucked her in, while she just laughed, and then kissed her cheek and then went to bed themselves.
Surprisingly, Lila slept peacefully through the night for the first time in a long time.
