Kentucky State Parks "Kentucky is home to some of the most beautiful scenery and most interesting historical sites in the country. Our state park system includes 49 parks and one interstate park with facilities for meetings and conferences, recreation, camping, sports, education and much more. This year, 1999, marks our 75th anniversary."
Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Kentucky's Public Wildlife Areas.  Please be sure to check hunting seasons before hiking. 
"The Kentucky Rails to Trails Council, Incorporated is a not-for-profit corporation granted tax exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service. Formed in 1994 and fully staffed by volunteers, its mission is to enhance the quality of life in our communities by developing a state wide rail-trail program. Currently, Kentucky, with seven miles of trails, ranks 47th. Only Delaware, Alaska, and Hawaii have fewer miles."
The Sheltowee Trace Trail "Follow the footsteps of Daniel Boone through Shawnee Country! A 268-mile hike, with stretches for mountain biking and horsemanship."
Red River Gorge "Located in eastern Kentucky in the Daniel Boone National Forest is the Red River Gorge Geological Area. Carved over millions of years by  wind and water, this area is truly unique and wonderful. Within the area there are over 80 natural arches, historical sites, and miles and miles of trails made for cross-country backpacking or just day hikes. There are magnificent views, unusual vegetation and the largest concentration of arches and rock shelters east of the Rocky Mountains. Some of the rock shelters were used by ancient Indians to live in and supposedly one used by Daniel Boone!"
Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area  "Part of the Cumberland Plateau, the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area was set aside so people could enjoy the rugged scenic area through white-water canoeing, rafting, kayaking, hiking and a variety of other activities."
