BOW--A Great Connector

Everything Else in the Woods

Submitted by Scotty Clenney, KNOW Secretary

While recuperating from a sinus malady recently, I had a rare treat of reading the Kentucky Afield magazine from cover to cover uninterrupted. Although the articles were great and the photography soothing to the soul, I realized that I felt like family to most of these people. It was Barb Pulliam that introduced me to Becoming An Outdoors Woman. Through BOW connections it was Roy Grimes who taught my archery class; Tim Farmer who always mesmerizes the BOW crowd; Sherri Evans who showed us stunning wildflowers; Carolyn Hughes Lynn who filled in as van driver over crooked back roads at General Butler; the expertise of which would make Jehu look like an amateur (at dinner when we found out that she was a celebrity, we asked her to sign her book); J.B. Garland who taught us backpacking and compass reading; Mary Carol Cooper who served us edible goodies from the outdoors; Mary McQuillen who kept us in stitches while teaching the proper handling of firearms; the many officers of David Loveless who have patiently alleviated our boating fears; Barb Beck who can teach most anything as long as her snakes can come too; Laura Lang who knows her tracks; Peggy Perry who seems to be a jack of all trades at workshops; Jim Axon revealing fishing expertise; Barth Johnson and Mick Craig demonstrating trapping and fleshing skills; Tom Young sharing his culinary secrets; Brett Billing tying flies and helping us make unique jewelry; Rick Hill, the renown artist, was met by the KNOW board after a meeting at Salato; Commissioner Bennett who invited the "women" to an annual meeting of the Commissioners; and Nancy Theiss who pushed to get BOW on the books for women in Kentucky.

Thanks BOW for affording so many of us the privilege to meet so many of the fine men and women that make up the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources!

With thoughts of being in the woods or on the water,

Scotty Clenney
