If you weren't at the September BOW, you missed a great time! Ninety-two participants came together at Jabez on September 22-24. What can I say, except thank you to all our sponsors, instructors and workers who put so much into this program. I'd like to welcome and thank the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Safari Club International. They have joined with us in partnership of the BOW program. Their knowledge and experience will add a lot. Applications have gone out for the January workshop. It will be held January 21-23, 2000 at Camp Webb near Grayson. If you haven't gotten an application and would like one, please call KDFWR at 1-800-858-1549. I know the winter workshop is cold, but it's still fun. There are a lot of outdoor opportunities available in winter. So, sign up, bring a friend and join in the fun!
The Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources (KDFWR)
is overseen by a nine-member Fish & Wildlife Commission. This commission
approves the department's budget, sets season dates and approves all regulations
pertaining to hunting, fishing and wildlife conservation. The Commonwealth is
divided into nine wildlife districts. Each commission member represents one of
those districts. They are appointed by the Governor to serve four year terms.
Whenever a term is up, a meeting is called in that district to select nominees
to submit to the Governor. In order to nominate and/or vote in that selection,
you must be a resident of that district who has purchased a hunting or fishing
license, or registered a boat in the state of Kentucky, in each of the past two
consecutive years (or who have hunted or fished in Kentucky during the past two
years but were not required to buy licenses). Five nominees are sent to the
Governor. If more than five are nominated, then a vote is taken and the top five
names go to the Governor. Since the Department works with these nine districts,
the Board feels KNOW should have an area coordinator for each district. Right
now we don't have area coordinators for District 3 and 9. If you live in these
districts and are interested, please contact one of the Board directors.
