Michael: He is probably one of the most well known of all
the Archangels. He is the head angel who lead the spirits of
heaven into triumph over the powers of hell. Although he is
a Archangel, many would place him above the others, he was often
refered to as Prince of Seraphim. Michael is the protection
Archangel, and bringer of the gift of patience. He is the great
prince charged to defend the people. Michael's candle colors are
orange, white and gold. His color energies are orange, violet,
white, crystal, gold, and brown. Invoke Michael in the
North for motivation and empowerment in your work. Call on him to
protect you from day to day. Michael is the spirit of the
planet Mercury, Governor of the North and the element of Earth.
He is ruler over Sunday and Thursday. He is the alchemy of
motivation, activation and achievement.
Gabriel: The bearer of God's secret messages to His chosen ones.He is the Archangel of annunciation, humanity, resurrection, heavenly mercy, vengeance, death, revelation, truth, and hope. Bringer of news and heralds the revealing of answers. It is said to be that it was Gabriel who dictated the Koran to Muhammed (Islamic faith). According to legend it is he who will blow the trumpets to herald the second coming of Christ. Gabriel is the angel of the moon who brings man the gift of hope. He is the spirit of truth and the prince of justice. He is the alchemy of psychism, intuition, and receptivity.Gabriel is the Governor of the West and the element of Water. Ruler of Monday, psychic gifts, intuition, visions, magick, clairvoyance, scrying, astral travel, herbal medicine, the cycles of women, and female aspects of men. His symbols are the lily and the trumpet, and his stone is the moonstone. Gabriel's candle colors are silver, white and blue. Invoke Gabriel in the west for stronger powers of intuition and psychic gifts.
Raphael: He is one of the seven chief Archangels.
Most of all he is the angel of healing, among being the angel
patron of travellers and of young children. Raphael rules
over Mercury, Wednesday and Saturday. He is the governor of the
South and the element of Fire. He is often shown carrying a
pilgrim's staff. Raphael's candle colors are yellow, white and
gray.Raphael's color energies are yellow, white, gray, black,
crystal, and indigo. Invoke Raphael for healing of your
body and soul.
Uriel: He is the Archangel of salvation. Uriel
is said to be one of the four guardians of God's throne. Uriel
rules over Monday and Wednesday and is the alchemy of universal
order. He is the Governor of the East and the element of Air. He
is the angel of September and may be invoked ritually by those
born in that month. Uriel's candle colors are violet, white and
indigo. Uriel's color energies are violet, white, indigo, blue,
silver, and rainbow. Invoke Uriel to help you with the Winds of
Change.
Azrael: He is known as the Angel of death.
It is said, according to Muslim belief that he is always writing
in a large book, he would write you name in it at the time of
your birth and erase it upon your death. He supposedly was also
the one that brought God a handful of earth with which Adam was
ceated and that was how he earned his title of Angel of
Death. He is the angel who accompanies your sould to
heaven. Call on this angel at those times of grief to
comfort those loved ones left behind.
Camael: The Angel of Divine Love. He is
considered to be one of the seven archangels who stand before God
and one of the governing angels of the seven planets,
specifically ruler of the planet Mars. Originally the God of War,
Camael personifies divine justice and governs Heavenly singing.
He grants Power, Invisibility, and invincibility. Camael gives
power in interpersonal relationships and self-discipline, but the
most impressive trait of this Archangel is his knowledge of
Karma. Camael can show you how to make up for bad karma and how
to purify yourself in this incarnation. He acts as a judge and
can, on your behalf, make sure justice is served. He will only
help, however, if he feels you are honest.
Cassiel: Angel of Mind Expansion, Memory, and
Genius. Cassiel is one of the rulers of the planet Saturn, being
responsible for its motion and proper place in the heavens.
Cassiel is an angel of Scorpio. His colors are Maroon and black.
Haniel: Haniel is the Archangel of all powers of
love and harmony and can help you bring those influences into
your life. Brings Friends, Lovers, Peace, Love, Beauty, Grace,
Good Things, Common Sense! He can also aid you in artistic
matters. He is the angel of December, the planet Venus and the
astrological sign, Capricorn. For harmony and inspiration in your
life, this is the Archangel to work with.
Israfel: Angel of the day of judgement. The
Patron Angel of Entertainers is said to have the sweetest voice
of all God's creatures, singing praises of God in a thousand
different tongues. It is said that at the time of armaggeddon he
will decend down to earth and stand upon a rock and blow a
trumpet to wake all the dead and summon all the living to come
and stand before God for their own day of judgement.
Jophiel: Jophiel is the Angel of Paradise and the
Patron Angel of Artists.He helps in absorbing information,
studying for and passing tests, dissolution of ignorance, pride,
and narrow-mindedness, and exposure of wrongdoing in governments
and corporations. Jophiel helps in fighting pollution, cleaning
up our planet and brings to mankind the gift of Beauty. He is a
ruling prince of the Order of Thrones and the first World Teacher
for our world.
Metatron: He is the supreme angel of death. He
appears as a brilliant white light. Chancellor of heaven, King of
the Angels. He was Enoch in his earthly incarnation. He is the
twin brother of the angel Sandalphon and is the tallest angel in
Heaven. Metatron is the Supreme angel of death and the teacher of
prematurely dead children in paradise. Invoke him to teach you
how to work towards completion of magick and to help you find
someone who can teach you magick
Raguel: He is another of the seven
archangels. His job is to watch over the other angels and to make
sure they are performing works of good. He is the one who Judges
the angels and if they do wrong he brings them to account for
their actions.
Raziel: There is a legendary book called
"The book of the angel Raziel" this was supposedly
written by him and was a book that contained the knowledge of all
celestial and earthly knowledge. One aspect of him is that he can
give you the knowledge to understand energy currents and how to
manipulate them. He is ruler of the planet Neputune.
Sandalphon: He is the twin brother of Metatron and a
master of songs. It is said that the cloak of black he wears is a
pure energy field. He brings about the differentiation of sex in
the embryo. He acts as a guide for us all. and can help
steer us in the right path. Invoke him if you find yourself
confused about the direction of your spiritual path.
Zadkiel: He is the angel of freedom, mercy and a
patron angel of those who forgive. He is widely considered
an angel of mercy. In the bible it was said that it was he who
held back Abrahams hand to stop him from sacraficing his son
Isaac.

Basically why I feel that angels are used in Wiccan practices is
because they have great powers and have much to teach us. They
have been around since the beginning of time and are not
originally of the Christian faith. Sure Michael is a chief angel
of the Christian God, but a widely held belief is that he was
originally taken from Heremes, the greek winged messanger, when
looking at angels many seem to have been molded from ancient
religions, such as babylonain and sumarian beliefs. For me
angels are representaives (if you like) of cardinal virtues, such
as truth, justice, healing, love, strength. wisdom. obedience and
peace. To invoke the angels does not mean that you are
christian or being untruthful to your wiccan/pagan path, as they
are more spiritual guides than Gods as such, as they all are said
to be given to mankind as a gift of the gods/goddesses. In
ancient times as well these angels represented the elements of
Earth, Fire, Water and Air and were borrowed by other faiths and
incorporated into their standard belief system. Much like how the
christmas holiday was set up by the early church to replace the
pagan celebration of Yule, and how easter was originally a pagan
celebration of fertility and rebirth.
