    The Right Pet?

Before you even buy a gerbil you must decide whether it is the right pet for you. Gerbils are not generally very high maintenance unless you are a breeder and in that case can become a lot of hard work. All a gerbils needs is its basic needs such as: a cage, food, water, toys, cardboard, a occasional trip to the Vet when sick, and lot of TLC (tender loving care). A gerbil usually only needs about a half-hour to an hour of care per day. And being a desert animal they drink little water thus urinating less than other small rodents and making them practically odor-free! They eat prepackaged foods that cost very little, and they recycle cardboard products that other wise would be thrown away! Gerbil toys are not super expensive, but I recommend garage sales as a great way to find cheap used toys because after alittle washing they are just like new! Bedding can be bought in little bags if you only have one cage, but also come in huge bags for big time owners with multiple cages!

Also if you are planning on buying a gerbil for a son or daughter they are great family pets, but please educate your children on how to handle your gerbil first. Gerbils can also be great friends and companions once tamed and trained. Also take in to consideration other pets you may already have that may pose a threat to your gerbils (Like cats!) A Gerbil can be a great pet as long as you give it a great home! Please read the rest of my care page and visit any other gerbil pages you come across on my Links Page before getting your gerbils! And don't forget to ask yourself this one question: Is a gerbil the right pet for you?
