A Perfect Day.
It was a bright sunny morning in the macros 7 fortress...
" Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!"
"Huh? What?!" Mylene Jenius woke up with a jolt.
"SQUEAK..!"
"Gubaba! Where are you? Are you okay?!" The startled girl sat up to see a nearly *flattened* Gubaba beneath her.
"Oh!! Gubaba! I'm SO sorry!!" She picked up her furry little pet and hugged him to her chest. What a great way to start the day. Mylene thought sarcastically. Waking up on top of your pet!
The frown on her face quickly disappeared though, after she saw her calendar. It had a huge circle around today's date. She smiled, and skipped off to make breakfast; humming to herself, promising she won't let anything else spoil her day.
It was HER day.
2 hours later...
Mylene was mad mad mad !!!!
She had just had a HUGE fight with her mother over the phone.
Ray phoned her shortly to call her over to practice for the gig tonight, and so she is now in her red convertible, going 120 miles per hour trying to let the wind wash away her anger.
When will everybody stop treating me like a little baby!!!!! First it's mom and dad, then Basara, Heck; even Ray is starting to do it now!! It's seems like the older I grow, the more childish they think I get!!
She was so wound up in her own angry thoughts, when she was finally brought back to reality by the sound of her car hitting something. She pulled on the breaks immediately, and her car screeched to a stop; tires smoking.
Mylene hopped out of her car to see, in her terror, a small white puppy lying in her car tracks. Not moving.
Noooooooo!!!
She did the only thing she could: She took the dog to a vet.
She was really relived when the vet told her that the dog was not severely hurt,
only shocked.
Mylene was now angry, sad, AND depressed. She also felt very guilty for hurting that poor puppy. She should have been watching where she was going.
**********
Mylene finally pulled up to an old brick building, parked her car, and went inside.
All the other members of Fire Bomber were already playing. They all stopped playing when Mylene walked into the room.
"You're late." Basara stated, looking very annoyed.
Mylene didn't say a word. She just took out her bass guitar and walked over towards them. Ray handed her some music.
"Here's your part for the new song we're performing tonight."
Mylene looked over the sheets, and gave him a nod.
Ray noticed the blank expression on Mylene's face, and asked. "Are you okay Mylene?"
"I'm fine." She said quietly. "Shall we play?"
Basara gave her a weird look, and started singing.
Mylene was having a hard time getting into the music.
Her mind was all on the fight she had earlier with her mom, the little puppy she ran over, and how rotten her day has been so far. She kept making mistakes here and there, and when she tried to sing, her voice came out all sour.
Basara finally lost his patience and started yelling at her.
"Listen you little brat, if you want to play then get serious!! How in the world are we suppose to perform tonight if you can't even make it through one song without making twenty mistakes!!"
That was it.
Mylene stood straight up on her tiptoes and screamed at the top of her lungs straight into Basara's face. "IF YOU DON'T WANT ME TO PLAY THEN JUST TELL ME !!! YOU DON'T HAVE TO INSULT ME!!!!!!"
And with that , she dropped her guitar and stormed out.
Basara just stood there, blinking.
His glasses falling half way down his face.
He shook his head to get the echo of Mylene's voice out of it.
He turned around to see Ray and Veffedas frowning at him.
"What?!" He asked looking a little embarrassed. "It was her fault."
Ray just sighed and shook his head. It did seem odd to him however, that Mylene would get so mad. Well, He thought, guess she's just having a bad day.
**********
Mylene was now in one of her worst moods ever.
She felt like screaming and pulling her hair out.
Nothing had gone right today. NOTHING.
She walked on into the crowded streets not knowing, and not caring where she was going. I think I'll just go and get myself lost. Mylene thought grimly. No one would care anyway…
She cheered up a bit though, after recognizing a familiar form of a man standing a few steps ahead of her.
" Gamlin san !!! " Surly he would remember today is...
The tall, purple haired man stopped and turned around. He smiled brightly at the sight of seeing Mylene, and waved at her. "Hello, Mylene san !"
Mylene ran up to him and said cheerfully " Boy, am I glad to see you! "
"You are?" Gamlin asked, blushing a bit.
"You have no idea."
"Oh ! I almost forgot!" Gamlin said suddenly, " Today is..."
BEEEEE....BEEEEE....BEEEEE....BEEEEE... BEEE...
Before he got a chance finish his sentence, the fortress alarm went on .
They were being attacked.
Gamlin started to run immediately.
"I sorry Mylene san," he called to her over his shoulder, "we can continue this later!"
Mylene stood there for a second, then cried out. "Ah! Wait for me!!!"
**********
By the time Mylene got to the battlefield,
Basara, the rest of Sound Force, and Diamond Force were already there.
The enemy was attacking them at full force; sending out missiles more than raindrops from the sky.
Basara was ahead of every one (as usual), dodging every missile fired at him.
Mylene watched the Fire Valkery as it speeds up and down, sideways then backwards, flipping and turning as if it was doing some sort of a dance.
She frowned. Humph! Show off!!
Mylene steered her pink Valkery towards every one else, transformed it into a robot,
and got ready.
Ray's face appeared on her screen, with a beep. "Mylene!"
"Sorry I'm late. Again." She answered him.
She Heard Basara yell out his "Alright!! Here I come ~ !!!!" over her speaker, and began to play the intro to Tosegeke Love Heart.
Like before, her bad mood made it really hard to concentrate on what she was doing.
Many times she came really close to getting hit, but quickly dodging at the last minute. The enemy was ganging in on them
"Mylene! We need some back up here!" She heard Ray cry. "Sing!!"
As soon as she heard him, Mylene opened up her sound boosters and started singing.
However, with the lack of concentration she had today, her song energy didn't seem to have quite the effect it usually has on the enemy.
A missile shot past Mylene's side, and she dodged it with a yelp.
"Mylene!!!!! Pay attention and concentrate!!!!" This time it was an angry looking Basara who appeared on her screen.
Mylene shouted right back at him. "Well, if you didn't yell at me this morning and got me in such a bad mood, I'd never…"
"Look out!!!!!" Basara shouted, before Mylene could finish lecturing him.
Mylene turned, and saw the head of a missile heading straight for her...
She screamed, and the last thing she remembered was seeing the form of a blue Valkery putting itself between her and the missile.
Then, every thing went black.
Gamlin san...
**********
"Ohhhh..."
Mylene slowly opened her eyes...
"Take it easy girl, that was quite a blow you took out there."
"Ray..." She sat up to see a worried looking Ray sitting at the foot of her hospital bed.
"I'm okay...really." Mylene replied, Her head still feeling a little woozy.
"The nurse said you don't have any serious injuries, so you won't have to stay in the hospital long." Ray said smiling.
"That means I can play tonight!!" Mylene said happily.
"I wouldn't if I were you."
A voice came from behind them, and Mylene looked to see Basara leaning against the doorway.
"Little kids shouldn't push themselves that hard."
Mylene stuck her tongue out at him. "I'm not a little kid, and I can..."
All of a sudden something hit her and she stopped in mid-sentence.
"Oh my God, Gamlin san!!!!!! Is he all right?!"
Ray chuckled. " I thought you'd ask. He suffered some head injuries, and he's got a broken leg. But other then that he's all right."
Mylene looked like she was going to cry.
Ray quickly added. " But he's a strong guy...the doctor said he should be out of the hospital in a week."
"I know the guy was a little out of it," Basara snorted, "but I didn't expect him to do something that stupid."
"Well, unlike you," Mylene said, now getting out of the bed, " some people actually care about me."
**********
Mylene looked at herself in the mirror.
She was now wearing her concert costume, sitting in her dressing room, waiting to go on stage.
She looked at the depressed girl starring back at her.
She was also expecting to see Gubaba, but then remembered that he had stayed home after she nearly squashed him this morning.
Why is this happening to me?!
First I almost killed Gubaba by sleeping on him, then mom phoned, and I screamed my voice out fighting with her. I ran over a dog, and then, surprisingly enough, I still had enough voice to scream at Basara!!
And To top it all off, I was nearly turned into "barbecued Mylene" if it wasn't for Gamlin san saving me.
What did I ever do to deserve this?
And it all had to happen today! My day!!
Sometimes I think I...
Knock...Knock...Knock...
A slight knocking interrupted Mylene's thoughts.
She turned and saw Basara standing behind her.
"It's time, let's go!"
She sighed and stood up. " Okay...I'm coming. "
Basara made a move towards the door, but then turned back again.
" I'm...uh...sorry bout yelling at you earlier."
"It's okay." Mylene said. You do it all the time
"Well then come on, singing can always cheer you up!"
He's right. Mylene thought. I should go out there and have a great time!!
Besides, what can *possibly* be worse then what I've been through already…
**********
She was wrong.
Just as the concert was getting to it's climax, Mylene's bass guitar made a huge *THAWNG*, and the most embarrassing thing happened.
A string broke.
Right in front of the audience.
She looked up with terror and saw the whole audience letting out surprised gasps and whispers.
She turned and saw Ray and Veffedas looking just plain shocked.
She didn't even have the courage to look at Basara.
A single tear ran down her cheek and with a "sorry" spoken barely above a whisper, she sunk her head and fled off the stage…
It rained soon after, so the concert was canceled.
**********
It was almost midnight when Mylene finally arrived home.
She was exhausted and soaking wet. Her face was a mixture of rain and tears.
With difficulty, she dragged her weary body out of her car.
When she got to her door, she saw something on her doorstep.
There was a rose, a card and a brown paper bag.
She bent down and picked them up.
On the card were 3 words: Happy Birthday, Mylene.
"Well," she said to herself quietly "at least somebody remembered."
She opened the door and stepped inside.
Gubaba jumped onto her shoulder with a happy squeak.
"Are you okay Gubaba?" Mylene was still concerned about what she did earlier.
Gubaba squeaked again, cheerfully, and rubbed himself against her neck.
"That's good to hear... I just had the worst day of my whole life."
She sat down on her sofa and opened the bag; half expecting it to be jewelry, since she was assuming it was from Gamlin.
I wonder how he was able to drop this off at my door? Mylene thought. Isn't he still in the hospital?
She was really surprised when a tape fell out of the bag.
A tape?
Why in world would Gamlin san give me a tape?
She eyed the tape curiously. Maybe there's something recorded on the tape? She thought. Mylene decided to find out.
She dug out her tape player, and popped the tape in.
She was right. There was something recorded on the tape.
It was a song.
A song sang by a *very* familiar voice:
Whenever you're feeling sad and low
Listen to my song and you'll know
Whenever you feel like hope is gone
Search through your heart and find that song
Let it carry you away
Lifting you like the wings of an angel
Let it take your worries away
To a place where the darkness cannot reach you
Whenever you feel like you're all alone
Be strong and remember you're never alone
Whenever you feel too weak to go with the flow
Listen to my song and you will know
Somebody out there cares for you...
Somebody out there cares for you...
So whenever you feel that your day is blue
Remember...
Somebody out there cares for you...
The tape finished, and the eject button popped up.
Mylene just sat there.
Not believing what she had just heard.
Then, for the first time that day, she smiled a bright smile.
Her smile continued to grow until it became a giggle.
She sighed and looked out the window.
" Thank you, Basara...." She whispered, smiling to herself.
Well, maybe today wasn't such a bad day after all...heh.. heh....
The End
