M13

Observer's Notes: M13 is one of the grandest of all globular clusters, especially for Northern Hemisphere observers. It's located in the constellation Hercules, and can easily be spotted in binoculars. Test your observing skill by trying to spot M13 with your naked eye from a dark sky site. This cluster looks great with any size telescope and magnification. If you have a large aperture scope, don't be afraid to bump up the power- go to 250x and beyond! The detail you will see is mind blowing! It's especially fun to watch a globular slowly drift through the field at high magnifications (unless you're using a scope that tracks the sky.) By the way, the galaxy in this image is located on the right side, just above center.
