Observer's Notes: The Dumbbell, or Apple Core Nebula, is a showpiece at summer and early fall star parties. It is also within reach of nearly every backyard telescope, and is even visible to sharp-eyed binocular obsevers. Its high surface brightness gives it beautiful contrast against the backdrop of blackness. Use the stars of little Sagitta the Arrow to find this nebula.
