Observer's Notes: The Great Nebula in Orion is arguably the most observed deep sky object of them all. Visible to the naked eye as the middle fuzzy "star" in Orion's sword, the Nebula begins to take shape with binoculars. It is a magnificent sight with any size telescope. Unlike many deep sky objects, you can actually see most of the structure in Orion's Nebula that comes out on film. You won't see the dazzling color, however, unless you look through a very large aperture scope (16 inches and up.) Observers have reported seeing green, rather than the pinks and blues that show up on film. More observer's notes about Orion follow in the next two images.
