Observer's Notes: The Rosette is a difficult target visually. Located in the constellation Monoceros, it can be found by drawing a line starting at the stars in the head of Orion, through Betelgeuse, to Epsilon Monocerotis (a 5th magnitude star visible to the naked eye from dark sky sites). The Nebula is just east of Epsilon. Through a small to medium sized scope you will easily spy the embedded star cluster, NGC 2244. We would recommend at least an 8-inch scope with a nebula filter to pick out any details of the Rosette itself.
