Saturn, by the HST

This fantastic montage of images was created from snaps that the Hubble Space Telescope took from 1996 to 2000. Think of Staurn as a giant top spinning in space. Over time, the angle changes, and we see the rings open up. You can follow these changes in any backyard telescope. In 2001, the rings are still wide open, providing the most spectacular view of Saturn that we have had in years.
