Nickolas Gene Carter was born January 20, 1980, in Jamestown, NY. When he was younger he would help his parents and grandmom run the Yankee Rebel [a popular dance club.]
"We had a dance floor at the Yankee Rebel, and my dad was DJ and played records. When I was real small, I used to get up there in my diapers and dance around."
When Nick was 6, and his sister Bobbie Jean (BJ) was 2, the family headed off to Florida. They thought they would move and start a new bisness. The family packed their belongings in their Cadillac and a trailer and headed south.
Their first home in Florida was in a retirement community that their parents worked at.
"Me and BJ used to get into so much mischief, it was so funny."
Later Nick got some more siblings to cause a ruckus with. After BJ was born, his mother had another girl Leslie, then she has twins Angel and Aaron. Nick feels that having a brother and sisters has made his life better.
"I guess you could say it was a happy change, because now I have lots of siblings."
He got his first role on stage in elementary school, when he starred in Phantom of the Opera Another boy had the role at first but he couldn't reach the notes that he needed to, so little Nicky stepped in. By the time the show opened people has been convinces of Nick's talent. Nick's mother believed in him and let him persue his talent.
About a year later the family relocated to Orlando, FL. Nick started a new elementary school. but he missed classes a lot because he had to work. He had tutors to help him with all the work that he missed.
"I did commercials and sang in a few places. I did commercials for the lottery and Money Store. I really decided that I wanted to be a preformer, so I auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club show and the Backstreet Boys."
He got both parts, so now he had to choose which path he wanted to take. At first he decided to take the Mickey Mouse Club job, but he changed his mind. He wasn't sure if the boys were the right way to go. At the time the didn't have a record deal, but he decided to join them anyway. The group started with Nick, AJ, and Howie, they practiced and harmonized together. Doing these things got the attention of a manager, they had to formally audition and get two more members. With his parents support he became a Backstreet Boy
"It was kind of scary. There were meetings and talk about what it would take for the Backstreet boys to get a record produced. We sang at malls and in local palces. On the road, I turned out to be the one who liked to sleep the most. AJ ate the most-and I pulled the most pratical jokes."
Nick learned easy that it's not as easy as it looks. It takes hard work.You can't walk into a studio and get a big check just for signing a contract. There is more to it, and Nick has learned that.
The boys started to question if they were going to hit it big or not. They had gone two years with little success. Finally their second single went gold in Germany. They also sold-out their concert overseas. When they got home the USA was ready for them.
When he's not toruing with the boys he lives in Florida. He likes to go out on the boat that he bought himself. Nick believes thatone day he'll find the girl of his dreams and she'll be spoiled rotten by him.
"Faithfulness is very important to me. i couldn't go out with a girl who liked other guys. And I would be incapable of cheating on my girlfriend. I wouldn't be able to look her straight in the eye. When I have a girlfriend I won't even need to look at other girls."
