“Yeah, well, what do we do now?” Nick asked, taking a look at the baby in his arms who was sucking on her fingers.
“How about some TV?” Brian suggested, grabbing the remote from the table beside him. He pressed the power button only to be greeted with static. He raised an eyebrow, and flipped the channel. Static. He cleared his throat, but continued to press the UP button, but all they were seeing was static.
“It’s not working!”
“Man!”
“Come on!” The guys all exclaimed at the same time. They all sighed loudly, trying to decide what to do.
“Is there a blanket or something around here? I wanna put her down. My arms are starting to get sore,” Nick said, looking around the room for something to put on the floor. AJ went up the stairs and came back with a comforter.
“This should be enough padding for her.” He set it on the floor, and Nick got up from the couch, lightly placing Jenny on the blanket. She giggled as Nick started making faces at her. Brian and AJ joined their friend on the floor, all of them crowding around her. The all started making faces and different noises, making Jenny laugh. Nick tapped her noised right before she took his finger in her tiny hand.
“OW!” Nick moaned.
“Man! You’re more of a baby than she is!” Brian laughed. Nick glared at him.
“She’s got one hell of a grip!” Nick mumbled. She suddenly put his finger in her mouth, making Nick cringe.
“Eww! It’s all slimy!”
“It’s a mouth!” AJ said, trying to make a point. Nick started laughing quietly.
“What?” Brian and AJ both asked.
“It feels really weird! She has no teeth! It kinda tickles.” Jenny took Nick finger out of her mouth, bringing it up in front of her eyes. She scrunched up her face, and started spitting at it. Brian and AJ laughed, Nick looking at her curiously.
“She doesn’t like you!” AJ cracked.
“Yeah, well, who made her stop crying?” Nick snapped back.
“I could’ve done that!” AJ shot.
“Nuh uh!”
“Uh huh!”
“Nuh uh!”
“Uh huh!”
The both stopped arguing and looked at Jenny who had joined their conversation by making her own little gurgle noises. All three of them smiled down at her. Suddenly, out of nowhere, she started crying.
“Not again!” The guys all grumbled at the same time. This time Brian picked her up in his arms. He stood up, and started walking around the room, softly patting her back. Brian got a disgusted look on his face, and turned to AJ and Nick.
“I think I know why she’s crying.”
“Why?” the two guys asked.
“Cause she needs to be changed,” he declared, holding her out in front of him. Brian turned his body towards his two band members.
“Who’s gonna change her?”
“Not me!”
“I don’t think so!”
“But I don’t wanna!” Brian whined.
“Too bad! You’re the one holding her!” AJ pointed. Nick nodded. Brian sighed heavily, but made his way towards the stairs. Nick and AJ followed to find a few toys for her to play with later. Once on the top floor, Brian turned right, going to her bedroom and AJ and Nick went left to the playroom. Nick and AJ walked in and saw toys all over the place! Some on shelves, some on the floor, some in a toy box. The two looked at each other, grinned, and went to work. They both began to rummage around, looking for interesting things to play with. Nick’s attention turned to a big fire truck. There was a button you could press that would make the sirens start up. He laughed to himself and picked it up. AJ grabbed a bunch of stuffed animals and rattles. He opened his mouth to say something, but quickly shut it.
“Nick!” he whispered. Nick looked at him.
“What?”
“Listen…”
Both guys stayed perfectly still, concentrating on the noise going on down the hall. They both held in their laughter as they listened. They could hear things falling, mumbling and grumbling, and a baby’s giggles. AJ turned to Nick with his eyebrows raised.
“I’ll go check what’s going on.”
Nick nodded, watching AJ get up to check on Brian.
