As I come down the stairs, with a big towel sitting on top of my head covering my wet hair, I realize I'm going to have to explain all this to my mom. Sitting at the kitchen table, she's drinking a cup of coffee and listening to the radio. She likes almost every kind of music. I like it that way though. "Good morning Mamma. What song is this?" I ask, and laugh.
"It's called, 'Gimme Some Lovin,' It's a good one. Now, Hailey, what on earth are you doing up this early?" I knew that was coming.
"Oh, I just thought I'd go out for breakfast." I have a feeling she's not going to let this go.
"With who?" She raises an eyebrow at me. "I was wondering why you hadn't been complaining about anything the past couple days. It's a boy isn't it?"
"Can't I go out for a nice quiet breakfast by myself?" I know I'm going to have to spill the beans sometime, but I might as well stall for now.
"What's his name?" She knows me too well. "You can tell me."
I sigh, giving in. "Taylor." I say, sitting across from her. I love that name, I smile every time I say it.
"Is he cute?" I can't believe she's asking me that.
"Of course." I laugh. "I met him yesterday. Well, I saw him for the first time the day before, at work. But I talked to him yesterday."
"And he asked you out for breakfast? How sweet." Well, I suppose this is better than not being able to talk to my mom at all. And besides, who else have I got to talk to? "So, what does he look like? How old is he?"
"You're so nosey. He has long blond hair, the most amazing blue eyes, and he's 16. He lives about 4 miles from here. I'm meeting him at the park, and we're going to walk to a little restaurant."
"And when do I get to meet him?"
"Mamma, I just met him. I don't know."
She nods. "Alright. I have some good news. Your father called last night, I was going to tell you but you were in your room and I didn't know if you were awake. Anyway, he said Timmy has been missing us pretty bad, so he's going to bring him to come and stay with us for a while. They'll be here this afternoon."
"Really?" I jump up. "That's great. Is Daddy going to spend the night?"
"I asked him to Hun but he said he'd just go ahead and get a flight back." She said sympathetically.
"Oh, alright." I realize what time it is, and decide I better start getting ready. I have to look perfect.
Heading to the park, I'm just as nervous as yesterday. And there he is, sitting in the same swing. "Hey." I say, walking up beside him.
"Oh hi." He smiles at me and stands up. "Are you hungry?"
I can feel my face turning red just looking at him. "Yeah, a little."
"Well good," he says, "let's go." And we start walking together. We don't talk much on the way, thank goodness it's not too far away. It's just past the Flower Shop, I'm surprised I never noticed. I really like the scenary around here. It's not too country, like where I use to live, but not too crowded. "Here we are." He grins as we walk into the parking lot.
"Ma's Kitchen?" I laugh a little. "Now that's a creative name." Oh, I hope he didn't think I'm dissing his little restaurant.
He laughs with me, thank goodness. "Yeah, I know. But the food is great."
We walk inside and stop at a small sign that says 'please wait to be seated. A woman walks over and takes us to a little booth by the window. We open our menu's and look at all the choices. I can't believe I'm actually going to eat in front of this guy. I just know I'm going to make a fool of myself. "So what do you recommend?" I ask Taylor.
"If you like pancakes, you have to get those. They have the sweetest syrup." He smiles.
"Alright then, that sounds good." The waitress walks over and asks what we would like.
"We'll have two plates of pancakes." Taylor says cheefully.
She nods, "and what would you like to drink?"
He looks at me and I shrugg. "Uh, milk."
"Two glasses of milk." He says to her, and she takes our menus and walks away. We sit there a minute, just sort of looking around. Finally Taylor looks at me and smiles, "You look cute today."
I really believe I've met the sweetest guy in the whole world. Especially considering the fact that I don't look too great right now. Just shorts and a tank top. "Thanks." We talk for a while and finally our food comes.
"So what do you think?" He asks as I take a bite of the huge stack of pancakes siting in front of me.
"This really is good." I probably would have said that even if I didn't like them, but they did taste great. We eat, and talk a little, until finally we're finished. Though, we both only eat about half of what we had.
"You know, we should have just got one plate." He laughs, and I nod. "So what do you want to do today?"
"Oh it doesn't matter. What ever you wanna do."
"Well, do you like to rollerblade?" he asks.
I nod, "Yeah, but I'm not very good at it."
"I could teach you." He grins, way too sexy. "What size do you wear?"
"Seven, why?"
"Well I'm sure we'll have some that will fit you. That way we don't have to walk all the way back to your house, and then to my house." He has such pretty eyes.
"Okay, that's good." We get up and walk to the counter to pay. I don't know if I should offer to pay or not. He starts to get out his money. "Um I can..."
"No, I got it." He says stopping me. How sweet. We walk out and start towards his house. "You're not going to laugh at my goofy family, are you?" He smiles.
"I won't, I promise. But I'm sure they're not that bad."
We walk a while beside each other, and he looks at me. I look back and he smiles, and takes my hand. I feel shivers go all the way down my body. I blush and so does he, but I've never been so happy. His hand is so soft, so... perfect.
